Ooooh..mere words alone cannot describe how much I can relate to this!!!!
One of the greatest things I looked forward to when I was in the Army, was coming home to a nice hot shower and getting out of my mud, gas soaked BDU's and into clean dry clothes. After going sometimes for over two weeks without a shower or clean change of uniform (including underwear), being able to take a long hot shower was a luxury to dream of!
Even the most basic things like toothpaste. mouthwash, deoderant and shampoo were a luxury to cherish.
To this day, each night I still burn a candle in the hallway as a reminder of what I went through back then. The best days were Sundays. We would get back on sunday evening when everything ( and I mean EVERYTHING ) was closed. Getting all cleaned up and later being able to sit in the window of a nice warm room, looking out into the cold evening air knowing that I no longer had to live out there (at least for the next few weeks anyway) gave me a feeling that cannot be described by mere words!!
Stripped back to absolutely nothing but ur essential self...
Having that self essentially tested by FIRE....
The destruction of all that is not pure....the systematic dismantling of all hope & desire
With the SuN dawning on a new day.
Sometimes treasures are hidden at the bottom of the ocean, where only the ridiculously brave will find them
