Conchaga
Let's fuck some shit up
In another thread Missmanners made a comment about the history of the Mine Field and that got me thinking. There are so few of the original Mine Field disciples left. Joker and Retrotrek have long since vanished from Troll Kingom. The glorious beginnings of the Mine Field should be recorded for the posterity of future Mine Fielders.
Many of the original Mine Field records were lost due to The Great Pruning.

^ Feel free to punish the wicked. Though, once punished, forgive them. They knew not what they were doing.
What follows is Conchaga's Gospel of the Mine Field.
When TK was created the Founders needed a place to discard unwanted spam, bot bumspew, scripts, popups, hacks, and any other nasty trolling byproduct. These wise Founders saw fit to create the Mine Field. It's hard to imagine that the place we all know and love, the one place one may find harmony on Troll Kingdom, started as a garbage heap of TK's most unwanted refuse.
This takes place back when TK was a younger, more innocent version of the Trolling Eden it is today. Most of the spamming was on topic and performed in The Troll Playground what was then known as Speak Freely. There was a group of such spammers who were beginning to take spamming to entirely different levels. They soon began flooding Speak Freely with their witty one word responses, single smiley retorts, and battles to gain the last word in a thread.
One of these innovators was Joker. Joker, like Gagh and Conchaga came from the land of Decipher's Star Trek Customizable Card Game Everything Else board. This was the land where they were first exposed to the horrible yoke of over-moderation and constant post deletion at the hands of Major Rakal and her cronies. He went by the name PainInTheAsometricPhotons (PitAP) then. He didn't become Joker until he came to TK. Joker was a care-free poster who enjoyed the everyday life of posting miscelaneous topics and engaging in off topic banter.
Joker was one of the first to start using short responses to threads. Sometimes he would post only a few words. They remained on topic, but gave relatively nothing to the continuance of discussion. Most of the time they were witty and playful responses. That is, of course, when he wasn't using his dual account Bane. When he posted with Bane all one would see were pictures of scatology and snuff photos. Not unlike Bodybag. However, Bodybag was controlled by another of Decipher's EE board castaways, DirtyFilter (currently he has an unused handle at TK The Iceman Cumeth). DirtyFilter can now be found posting as Nunzio on LoNAF.
Joker's quick replies started a new trend of posters having simple discussions with only a few words each. When this started to happen people began to compete for the last word in a thread before it died. This is where Conchaga comes in. Conchaga, as mentioned before came from Decipher's EE boards. There, his name was Boothby. He was invited to TK by his friends DirtyFilter, JibbaJabbatheHut (now Robert "Monkey" Loggia on TK, and Dr. Zoidberg on LoNAF), and PitAP. All of whom had discovered TK through their limited time posting at TrekBBS. Conchaga took the trend of last word posting to an even higher level: getting the last word in every thread on the first two pages of Speak Freely. He would sometimes do the same thing in the Tea Room.
This form of spam wasn't widely adopted until Conchaga befriended Retrotrek. You can read Retrotrek's beginnings here. Retrotrek ejoyed this form of spamming. She even added her own twist of creating new threads of somewhat humorous titles that were spam in and of themselves. She created those threads just to spam in them. Her particular trademark were weblog-like posts. Such things as "I'm getting a new toilet." were her staple.
Retrotrek and Conchaga were unofficially engaged in a spam war. Their friendly competition eventually started the Troll Kingdom Spam War of 2003. The specifics of which will be touched upon later. Retrotrek and Conchaga would spend their free time trying to dominate the last word in every thread within Speak Freely. Until one day Conchaga noticed the 'sort members by post count' option on the Member List page. He realized that due to his continued spamming he had the highest post count on Troll Kingdom. Yet, that spot on number one seemed to flip-flop between himself and Retrotrek.
Soon, the spam problem became the buzz of the board. Many people didn't like the way that Speak Freely was now a place filled with hijacked threads, and pointless tidbits from people's lives. The TK members started to suggest ways of ridding the board of the spam. One of those anti-spam coalition members was Yo.. He proposed radical new ideas on how to eliminate the spam and/or the spammers from TK.
Yo. had a large following and soon the Founders had to take action. This is when the Spam Filter was engaged. The Spam Filter was TK's 'Final Solution' to the spam problem. Any and all things considered spam were instantly moved from wherever they were posted to the Mine Field. The main targets of the Spam Filter were a large majority of Retrotrek's threads.
Retrotrek's threads were constantly being moved to the Mine Field. She then left what she had dubbed "Speak Not-So-Freely" and entered The Mine Field, never to return to the surface population again. Unhindered by the Spam Filter while posting in the Mine Field she was able to post anything and everything she wanted. Her post count soon began to rise exponentially. Conchaga could barely keep up. He had to post in Speak Freely and the Mine Field in order to keep up with Retrotrek's posting fury.
Gagh - originally known as Plain Old Gagh on Decipher's EE boards and TK before he had the Founders shorten it to Gagh - until then had been content with being a pedantic troll. He was constantly pestering unintelligent halfwits who couldn't put a proper grammatical sentence together with super glue and a blow torch. This little competition between Retrotrek and Conchaga intrigued him. He too decided to try his hand at spamming. The man was a natural spammer. His post count soon entered the running for number one.
Seeing another person encroach upon his territory Conchaga openly challenged Gagh to try and unseat him as the top poster on TK. Gagh accepted and The Troll Kingdom Spam War of 2003 had begun. The two spammed for dominance. The chosen battlegrounds were the Mine Field and Speak Freely. Occasionally the furious spam skirmishes spilled over into the Tea Room. Each of them would take turns spamming Speak Freely and the Mine Field trying to outdo one another as quickly as possible. The post counts began to rise. The spam became a board-wide epidemic. This seemingly unrelenting Spam war came to a somewhat anticlimactic ending when Conchaga bowed out due to his upcoming adventures outside of TK.
It was too late. The war had spawned one of the fiercest spammers vBulletin has ever seen. Gagh, in Conchaga's absence, completely dominated the title of the poster with the highest post count. To this day, no normal poster has even come close to his spamming greatness.
While this spam war raged, several other members of TK began poking their heads into the Mine Field. Captain Wacky was one of the others that noticed the small spamming hamlet that had sprung up in the Mine Field. His friend Mentalist enjoyed spending time in the Mine Field from time to time as well. Retrotrek invited her neighbor and friend Laker_Girl to join her. Since Retrotrek refused to post outside of the Mine Field she and Laker_Girl enjoyed eachother's company in their little community. Laker_Girl and BigDickMcGee had also become fantastic friends. This brought another member of TK into the mix. Blazer Boy and $M Gayboy Bruce Wayne (now Eggs Mayonnaise) began adding to the pop-culture frenzy that was growing quickly. These are just a few of the members that helped to make the Mine Field the thriving online community that it is today.
Now, the Mine Field is a large part of what makes TK unique. New members coming to TK who want to relax from their day-to-day trolling are always welcome here to spam their stress away. One can say, without a doubt, that the Mine Field is probably one of the most dynamic forums in all of the internet.
Many of the original Mine Field records were lost due to The Great Pruning.
