Actually, and I can understand you getting confused since this requires abstract thinking skills, I dropped out of seminary after deciding I wasn't cut out for it and joined the Army.
 
You know, having been to seminary myself, I can understand why you dropped out. Attending seminary precludes the assumption you have ethics.

I loved the line "The Bible did not arrive by fax from heaven."
 
I got to watch two "searching for the truth" shows about the Davinci Code on the Discovery Channel. last night.
They sqwashed the Priory of Sion quite soundly.
And discounted the holy blood theory.
 
I should have clarified. By 'my opinions' I was referring to the mortal aspect of Jesus. I deny any supernatural claims subsequent generations have saddled him with.

My wife wants to go see the movie. She really enjoyed the book. I haven't read it, myself... I read "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" years ago and when my bud was talking about DV Code, my eyes glazed over... it very much had a been there, done that' feel to it for me.

I'm sure I'll enjoy the movie for what it is, though: FICTION. That's what I got out of the Bible, too. Fiction with some historical perspective thrown in for good measure.
 
I remember last year when I visited Paris, there were dozens and dozens of people at various sites mentioned in the books, hauling around hard-bound copies of "The DaVinci Code" that were heavily book-marked and full of little notes and highlights. I even heard one group claim they were "researching" the book. I didn't see a single Bible.

It's fiction. It's appealing fiction because a majority of people don't like any mystery in their Faith. They also like a more modern twist in Christ than what is already in the Bible, because the Bible often takes work to read. Pulling scripture out of context often leads to confusion. Pulling facts out of one's ass often leads to a best-seller.
I liked "Angels and Demons" better anyway (and I borrowed both books from my Library...cost to me = $0).

I'm not sure this movie will fly...it's not as fantastic as "Harry Potter's" world even if the book is as heavily circulated among the audience. Tom Hanks doesn't strike me as athletic enough for the main character.

Angels & Demons was a much better book with a stronger message to it.

I was rather perplexed myself with the choice of Hanks in the lead role. Affleck would have been better...or maybe Joaquin Phoenix.
 
Less risk doing the book with more copies in print.

Hollywood is full of cowards.
 
I didn't read the book but I saw the movie, good flick, I don't know why Christians are freaking out, it's FICTION.
 
True, but I think the freak out aspect for the less enlightened is Brown's claim that certain parts of the book are fact when they are...at best...unproven.

There's a tendency among Christians to be unable to seperate sex from sin. They know marriage is sanctified by God, they know it's a good thing, but the concept of Jesus getting married is distasteful to many. I think that's the major burr up many asses.

Passion of the Christ was fiction too, and it caused more freaking out.
