The Kindle-First Impressions

And all electronic media will be wiped in the revolution.

Question - can the text size be changed? We're thinking of getting my grandma one but she'd need pretty big text.

Why not just go to the library and get her some nice large-print books, or some audio-books?

Because going to the library can be a pain in the ass and we certainly can't take her every time given her limited mobility.

Used book stores.

Drop-off, pick-up. Support geeky/spooky/closet suicide girl kinky-chick owners (or owner's daughters). And yes, the library for MOST people is an incredible resource. Of course, I live less than a block from one.

Actually, many modern day libraries allow you to borrow books and return them at a later date.

I've read e-books for review since that's the only way they are published, but I prefer to have an actual book in my hands. The book club I'm in, the head guy has a hard-on for his Kindle.

I worked at a used book store a long time ago, it was my second job EVAR. I loved that place.

It was my fave job too.

Yes, that's another pro. You essentially get any book in Large Print without having to search for it. I'll be honest, my own 39-year-old eyes are still good, but I don't use the smallish font that is the default setting, I use one size larger. I find that my eyes get less fatigued and I can read longer.

So far, I give the Kindle an A. The only reason it doesn't get an A+ is because it's still stubborn about connecting to my home wifi, but that's not a big deal, as I can transfer books via USB instantly.

i use the kindle and ibooks apps on my phone, and while it is odd turning the page every two or three paragraphs, the upside of always having a book with me is paramount. ebooks won't replace hard copies, not ever, but the added convenience of an extremely portable book reader has gotten me reading again in a big way.

food for thought.

Since I don't live in L.A. County anymore, There is only 1 library I can frequent, it's the only library in my small city. There selection is not so great, and if you want a new book like The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, they have like 3 copies so you wait literally months until it's your turn, and then you only get 2 weeks with it.

I resisted the Kindle for a long time, same arguments as everyone else, I don't want to read on a screen, won't replace the feel of a real book, etc. But I'm telling you the e-ink on this latest generation is magic, and it feels like a real book to me, with the protective leather case on it. So far, I'm loving it.

And what will we be replacing with electronics next, hmm? HUMAN BEINGS?

Well, sure, If I had, say, Jeremy Clarkson, or Sir Tom Jones money, I'd hire a bevy of busty wenches to read aloud to me.

I'd hire Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry and Brian Blessed.

By far the most interesting post of the thread. Cassia working in a book store is interesting but this is just freaky.

I love the idea of a book club with a "head guy" What did the blokes in the bookclub do? Mud wrestle for the alpha male role? Go all Spartacus on each other? Does the head guy get first pick of the females?

THAT COULD BE A SIT COM.

Ben was the leader of his book club and I doubt you'd make fun of him, would you? Would you? WOu-HE'S RIGHT BEHIND YOU WITH HIS BUG EYES AND 'MASTER' PLANS THAT ALWAYS WORK OUT UNTIL THE LAST HALF-DOZEN EPISODES WHEN WE REALIZE HE DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IS GOIN' ON EITHER!!

What happened to the old woman from the book group?
