The Lay Of Leithian

I started The Return of the King today on my annual read of LOTR. Once I finish I will read the Silmarillion again.

The Hobbit is the first book that was ever read to me, I believe. It holds a special place. Though it is a little kiddyfied reading it these days. But The Lay of Leithian is quality stuff, no doubt. A lot of the Silmarillion is.

I'm reading the Lay in Book 3 of The History Of Middle Earth at the moment so that's probably why I'm all excited and shit. I didn't read the Hobbit until I was about 20 or something (after LOTR!), sadly.

Slightly off topic: But I when I was finishing FOTR recently (the book changes everytime) Lothlorien and Farewell to Lorien were my favourite chapters. Something Gimli said at the end was really good as well. Galadriel hit a higher note this time with me. I am ever so slightly dissapointed with her portrayal in the movies. And the bit where she turns all evil when she is passing Frodo's test of giving her the ring of power was contrived and lame (in the movies)
