I was tempted by the name too~
Cassie report back on it and if it's any good, I'll stay up and watch it next week. Load of bollocks reading to do tonight for ESL which I kept putting off all day cos I couldnt settle down and focus and now i'm paying the price. bah.
I flipped back and forth between this and something else, and yes, I watched it purely for the name. It's pretty cool, and luckily it's not up against anything else I watch on Tuesday nights.
I was watching AFI's Top 10 Top 10. Was trying to catch the segment on To Kill a Mockingbird & The Searchers. So I'm still right...The Mentalist is not up against anything I "normally" watch on Tuesdays.
Pretty good show, with an interesting idea. I'm glad they didn't try to do a show about someone with real psychic powers, cause that's already being done to fucking death. Some of it was a bit cheesy.. the part about the serial killer "Red John" (I THINK THAT'S HIS NAME) killing Patrick's family, kinda made me roll my eyes, BUT.. I enjoyed it anyway. I liked how his psychic TV show was almost exactly like Crossing Over with Whatshisname.
My sisters and brother-in-law went to a taping of John Edwards' show. He went through about 50 people in the audience and came up with something for maybe 2 or 3 of them. The taping lasted hours, and apparently they just edit 5 half-hour shows from whatever happens in one of these marathon sesions.
The audience was trapped in their seats the whole time -- no bathroom breaks or anything. It was the most miserable experience of this kind that my sisters have ever been through. Plus he's mostly a sham. BANG BANG.
Not only is the show The Mentalist (I just watched it and enjoyed it actually) BLATANTLY based on aspects of Derren Brown's quite real, but as he always says not psychic abilities, but in this demonstration he uses his mythic cold reading skills to fool an audience in the States (where he is not known) that he is a medium. And trust that he didn't need even two takes to do this.
