The more I hear about Trek XI the more I dislike it.

It doesn't help that 90% of TBBS members are aggressively pro about this movie and go mental when anyone cites a concern. I've seen it happen in every thread that anyone with a legitimate point about how this movie is sounding shite so far has had.

Got to respectfully disagree with you there Menty.

I have yet to see this 90% of people backing the film and hearing nothing against it, all to frequently I find myself in a small minority of actually looking forward to it, compared to the large vocal majority who have been slagging this film off long before the trailer came out, before the casting came out, just at the very announcement.

It seems too many people are pissed off that this film isnt 100% entirely what they personally wanted to see in a new trek film, then heap on top of their displeasure Lucas style childhood raping comments, then say if people are actually looking forward to this film, there is either something wrong with them, or they are JJ apologists.

I am looking forward to this film, if it turns out to be crap, I will be disappointed, but at least I wont spend the next 6 months telling people they are wrong to have their own opinions about it.
 
Well everyone who saw the footage OTHER than the CHUD guy seemed to like it.

STILL, KIRK'S HANDS AND TONGUE SWELILNG UP WTf.
 
Also the CHUD guy calls TNG "shit" near the bottom, so fuck him.
 
Yeah, I could really see where he was coming from and thought I was on the same wavelength, then I read that TNG was "boring and talky". If he thinks that, then I'm unlikely to agree with him on any of the other things he said.

TrekMovie put up a review of the four clips as well today and they were just as detailed and thoughtful, but not nearly so negative. They didn't gush, but they seemed over all fairly positive.

Taking TBBS as an example that is definitely what I have seen to be the case.

One guy wrote out a huge post that was well crafted and thoughtful and didn't insult anybody and made sure to make his reservations about the movie sensible and relevant but also conceding that he hadn't seen the movie so anything was still possible.

A good solid post all round that gave his opinion.

What happened?

He got ripped to shreds by a bunch of over zealous 'protectors' of this movie whom seem to spend a huge amount of time being rather unpleasant and declaring that anyone who doesn't like what they've heard so far is an idiot and unable to understand this new era that we're being ushered in to.

A lot of condescending crap, basically.

There are of course some fans who are dead-set against this movie and post ridiculous threads with all the "Lucas raped my childhood" hallmark classics and they are always to be ignored. But there is definitely a cabal of pro-XI nutters over there that circle like sharks ready to flame the shit out of anyone who has a bad word to say about it.
 
I usually avoid that forum.

I am just quietly optimistic about the movie. I see the pictures, and read some of the comments, and hope for the best.

I started off being very optmistic, but every peice of information released has made me less so.

I GUESS IT'S BECUASE I'M JUST A BIG NERD WHO HATES IT WHEN PEOPLE CHANGE STUFF FOR NO GOOD REASON!!!! WHY CAN'T I JUST ACCEPT WHAT'S GIVEN TO ME EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT??? HUH. STUPID NERDS. GODDDDDD.

Trek needed to be helmed by someone who actually, y'know, gives a shit about Star Trek and considers the pay to be A Good Thing, but not the whole reason he's there.
 
Over on the boards at startrekmovie.com (where I've managed to royally fuckin' piss off about 98% of the idiot teenagers), someone suggested that Joss Whedon could have done a fucking excellent Star Trek film.

I must say I tend to agree. :)
 
DON'T TALK BAD ABOUT THE MOVIE OR I'LL CUT YOUR VULCAN EARS OFF AND SHOVE THEM DOWN YOUR THROAT, THEN I'LL SCOOP OUT YOUR GUTS AND FILL YOU WITH CREAM CHEESE AND BAKE YOU FOR THE SHAT'S HANUKKAH FEAST AT HIS HOUSE WITH SANTA'S ELVES AND THE GHOST OF STAR TREK PAST, BITCHES.
 
He couldn't even make his own series into a good film.
 
I liked Serenity. Not as good as the series, but better than some episodes.
 
I think not as good as the series sums it up nicely.

As for the star trek trailer, I have shown it to loads of people at work, and emailed it to a few people, and with one exception they have all been excited at the trailer, and disappointed they have to wait till may to see it.

By coincidence the release date of this film is also the date one of the pregnant girls in my office is due to give birth.

I joked that they are both going to get released on the same day.

She actually hoped her baby would come early so she could get someone to look after it so she could see the film.

The people most excited to see it out of the people at work are not the people you would expect, they are three women aged 40, 48 and 62, all fans of the original show when it first aired.

Sure the film needs new fans, but its still catering to some of its old ones too.
