The Top 100 Genre Episode Discussion Thread

I want to sort of defend some of my more campy choices, like Batman, Land of the Lost, and the $6M Man. The eps I chose actually did have an effect on me when I first saw them, and they all went a little further than their usual level of storytelling to some degree.

Trying to narrow it down to a mere 100 episodes of GREAT genre television is a fool's errand. Each of us have our own list of 100. Trying to reach concensus is masturbatory at best.

My list is not Eggs' list is not Menty's list is not Wacky's list is not Tis' list.

Post what you like; restrictions be damned.

We're talking about GOD here, people, something worshipped (or revered, at any rate.)

That having been said, genre animation should warrant it's own list.

I liked the variety of stuff from Eggs and others. A list should be about opening your eyes to stuff. IMO there should be a maximum from Buffy, X Files and each Star Trek Incarnation.

I was thinking that might be the prevailing thought; I would understand if anime/animation was taken off. It would free up a heap of slots...any other opinions on this?

I agree on the limits, if we say only three episodes per series, it would free up a lot of space.

I think three's a little severe. I mean, it's us making the list, and we like what we like. After enough whittling we'll be searching for shows that we may not even feel that strongly about just to have a "balanced" list.

I don't mind a few shows dominating the list. I think that was fairly predictable, seeing as several of us first met at a Trek board...

Maybe Trek should be removed from the list, too, then, as it's important to the genre is understood, and dominates so much. It's like taking the Egyptian pyramids off a NEW list of World Wonders. Trek, like the pyramids, is untouchable, and it's status can never be denied.

I'm sure we could easily come up with a list of 100 Star Trek episodes alone.

A Top sci-fi/fantasy list without Trek?

[Scooby] Buh? [/Scooby]

*throws tantrum on floor*

NO NO NO NO NO I WANT MY TREK I WANT MY TREK I WANT MY TREK AND YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

There, I feel better. :D

OH NOES EGGS IS IN THE GRIP OF JANEWAY'S BUN!!

But if you have five shows for each series, thats 25 potential spots for trek alone, 30 if you count animated series

maybe we should play scissor paper stone?

If anyone tried to put five Enterprise episodes on they would be RAPED BY HITLER.

Really though, what does it matter if there are more picks for a few shows?

If we started mentioning other shows that we think should be represented that aren't, and which ep(s) should be included, I could see there being more of a dilemma. So far all we've talked about is removing choices...

Did you not see the bit where I requested knight rider?

And no sci fi list can be complete without Airwolf, buck rogers, and the original BSG, not to mention space 1999, space above and beyond and planet of the apes.

I looked through TV.com at Space:1999 and Planet of the Apes actually, because I watched them when I was a kid. Same with Thunderbirds. Trouble is, I couldn't remember any episodes from either that had any meaning for me. Should I have picked an episode at random from each, just to make the empty gesture?

This is a list of favorite episodes, not favorite shows.

Well I didn't add any episodes to the list, so I still have a few of my favourites that could be added.

Space 1999 would have to be the one with the foam that filled moonbase, thunderbirds probably the one where they move the empire state building, admitedly I cant think of one for planet of the apes.

Buck Rogers has to be offthink, with the phyic midgets trying to strip Wilma in season two, original BSG, the one that sticks with me is where they found an earth type planet, accidently triggered a full scale nuclear war, and used the galacticas weapons to destroy all the balistic missles while on route to their targets.

78 still needs to be changed by an admin to DS9's Way of the Warior as currently BSG's Exodus Part II is listed twice.

Over all it's a good list, though maybe it could be tightened up a little. Or it could be extended.
