With Obama's inauguration, it's only a matter of time until everything goes to shit even more than it already has with Bush and the bailouts. This country's a sinking ship, and like any good rats, we should get off of it...

Now I'm thinking that we, the good Libertarians and classic Republicans of this nation have a duty to preserve the ideals our nation once embodied, if somewhere else. We could stage a takeover of some shit third world country nobody cares about (I'm looking at you, Djibouti), or we could have an exodus to somewhere like Alberta, which is already conservative leaning and sparsely populated, and by taking a slim majority secede from Canada, which of course has relatively high regional autonomy and the constitutional right to secede. We, America's conservatives, have the numbers, the capital, and most importantly, the ability to create our vision for society. We would be neglecting our duty to do otherwise.

The religious right is not invited.
 
I have to admit, I'm interested to see how some things pan out. I have absolutely zero confidence that Obama has clue one about what he's doing but I will enjoying watching him fall flat on his face and then how the media will spin it. It's kind of exciting.

I hear people say all the time that no one wants the president to fail and I don't WANT it I just don't see any way around it.
 
I was actually talking about something similar with a friend recently. A bunch of rich white foreigners taking over a predominantly Muslim country would be hard enough, but when you add in the fact that it borders Ethiopia (who's just finished withdrawing from Somalia, by the way), you're doomed.

I don't think there are many mininations worth taking over that would be that easy to take over for any extended period of time, even if you could get a good half a million or so affluent people. Even if the people welcomed you as liberators, their (much bigger) neighbors would see you as an unpredictable threat and invade.

Settling somewhere with trade potential and making yourselves a valuable and substantial part of the area's financial and service industries could certainly give you a bunch of undeserved influence, though.

Hmm.. maybe the British Indian Ocean islands? A lot of them don't have any native population and the world loves a tax haven...
 
Indonesian islands. Isolated, great trade routes to Australia, Japan, Mainland China, etc. They're run by a bunch of incompetent losers anyhow. They also have a wonderful palm oil and pulp industry if you could convince the rogue foresters from clearcutting fucking everything.
 
Taking over the biggest Muslim nation on Earth would probably be a bit of a challenge, but you could definitely exert enough influence to get a lot of things changed in the direction you want.

The Micronesian/Indian Ocean islands would be good targets, too, since most of them have trouble even keeping up regular flights in and out of the countries without foreign aid and hold millions in potential tourist dollars.
 
Give it another two years and I'm in. I need to save that little bit of extra capital and it's a go.
