The Walking Dead season 5

So, was anyone else surprised to see Beth's brains get blown out by Dawn? I was.

Noah is part of the group now, the others came back to rescue Michone and that small group of 3 and the preacher may have grown a pair. I'm not counting on that. It was a pretty emotional episode.

Rick was awesome. No more 'reasonable Rick', it's put up or die Rick now. Was awesome what he did with that cop.

Is it February that brings the next batch of episodes?

I didn't think much of Beth when she first appeared back in season two or whatever. Probably because they hardly gave her any lines and she seemed like a glorified extra destined to die. Then she started singing sometimes and that was nice. But last season and this season they actually developed her character quite a bit and I liked her and thought Emily Kinney did a good job. She seemed like a proper character who had potential to grow. Half of his episode was dedicated to devloping her relationship with Dawn. Then it ends with "BETH RANDOMLY DIES LOL!" So what was the point in developing her. What was the point in the whole police story other than having another "shock" death because it was the mid season finale? I know some people will say she was useless and seem to want every character to be a badass zombie killer like Daryl and Carol, but we need different types of characters. Someone like Beth offsets the "we can't trust anyone just kill them!" approach of Rick and the others. But no they just throw her away for shock value.

("But Wacky you love Game Of Thrones which kills characters all the time" but in GOT they usually die for logical story reasons and to spur the other characters development.)

Don't know it just all rubbed me the wrong way.

And hey we're out of story let's have two minutes of Morgan walking around in silence.

Yeah I think it's February when it'll come back and Tara will be ran over by a train for no reason because DRAMA.

Right?

Morgan is being sent on a wild goose chase to DC is what I'm guessing because of the note he found.

Do you watch Talking Dead right after the show? Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't. They had Emily Kinney on too and the writer of the story - show and comics. And yeah, he confirmed killing her off was literally for no reason.

I had the scenario right but I was sure they were gonna off Carol instead. Oh well. I think the note was mostly an easy way to make Morgan know it's Rick Grimes he's following. I sincerely hope they don't bring him in as a villain, his scenes with Rick are some of the best in the series.

I didn't think the death was useless at all. Kirkman like to remind people this is a horror series, and the zombies are only a small part of that. The show is about hopes being dashed. There aren't many happy endings. And Beth was supposed to be this ray of innocense, a leftover from the old world like Rick's farmer stint or the leftover cops in the hospital. I thought Beth's story was paralleled quite nicely by the cop chick's realization that her desperation to hold on to civilization had died already. I guessed that about halfway through the finale it had to be Beth that would die, because the parallels were too good there. I thought it was a great story episode. Not on a level with Merle's death, but close.

Great post, and I agree with you. Beth's death was senseless, and as if they just needed to off someone and struggled with who.

Still, I cried like a baby when that gun went off, and the hour after (talking dead) she did too. In fact at one point, Kirkman exclaimed while she was crying "I'll rewrite you back in next season".

Awesome

I was completely unmoved by her death, it was basically suicide by cop which served no purpose except to show what a stupid person she was. Daryl carrying out her tiny little corpse was a little sad but then they showed Maggie and I lost all sympathy for the sister that apparently forgot all about finding Beth... or that Beth even existed. "Road trip to DC!"

I did like the zombie evisceration/machete head split though and Rick had some great scenes this episode like "they're close".

....and that skinny zombie who got his guts spilled as they went by. ...and the fingers through the cracks in the doors.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PREACHER?

Guess we'll find out in Feb.

No remember, he got back in the church while the zombies were chasing him and then they all got out through the trapdoor in the cellar. The last clip was of him slouching in the hole while the dead came in.

I remember him walking into the hospital parking lot at the back of the group when they went to help with Beth. He was still carrying the machete, I believe.

You are correct about the preacher. He got out of the hole after the head was split WITH his machete and then the other gang pulled up in the fire truck and blocked the door to the church so the zombies can't get out. Then they all went to the hospital to meet up with the others.

The only thing I found 'unexplainable' is when Morgan got to the church and the zombies are all slaughtered. Did the DC group stay and kill them all first? Dunno.

Yeah, I remember the blood on the machete in his hand in one scene. He seems to be getting over his squeamishness.

Not sure about the Morgan scene. Michonne took out several zombies once they got in the church and Carl took out at least one. Could the zombies on the floor of the church be the same ones killed then? I didn't notice how many there were.

There was a whole sequence where he got outside the church and told Michonne and Carl he couldn't run so they stayed and killed all the zombies. I expect they finished the rest off when the fire truck came back. See what happens when you take piss breaks during the show? You miss stuff.

Sorry Donovan but you're wrong. Thank the genius who invented the DVR because I am watching that scene as I'm typing. It happened like I described. I knew I didn't go pee during anything! I had to go look and make sure because we now had three different versions!

Hmm. I gotta watch it again with the GF tonight but I'll take your word for it. Maybe it was just implied that they killed them after the commercial. Or it could be a clue that Morgan isn't the only one following them.

Well then that makes it more interesting...

I am going with implied they dispatched them all before they left since they had backup. I didn't watch to where they got to the hospital but IF I remember correctly, the firetruck was there. Nix that. Turned on the DVR and the firetruck WAS taken to the hospital. So I think it's safe to say they all dispatched the zombies and then went to meet up with the others.

Probably, but it isn't like the writers to miss such a big plothole, especially since it was clear they wanted to set something up vis a vis Morgan. Those aren't just random accidental scenes, they had to be set up and staged and filmed complete with zombie placement and there are people whose whole job is preservation of continuity. Now you got me wondering. I may pay closer attention tonight.
