Things you love about Star Wars

Star Wars (later retitled Episode IV: A New Hope) begins with a spectacular space battle. As a child I'd never seen anything like this before. I'd maybe seen other science fiction type movies, but none were as convinci9ng on or this kind of scale. The big ship swallows up the little one, VADER appears, the Princess is captured...but that's not what I remember the most from watching as a child. The movie follows the two droids, R2 and 3PO, as they escape the ship and land on the planet below. But they don't just rush to the next plot point. There's a whole sequence of the droids splitting up, getting lost in the desert, and getting captured by Jawas before we finally see Luke for the first time. THAT'S what made me Star Wars crazy: these two droids wandering around in this big, lived-in world. It was so weird, so alien, and so easy to believe in. When 3PO finds R2 again I was hugely relieved, even though they'd only been apart for a couple of minutes:

I can't imagine a big blockbuster movie today starting with such a weird sequence. Okay, yeah, it probably isn't as crazy as my childhood memory of it, but taking a detour like that still feels really different (and dare I say BRAVE.)

I love how "Star Wars" just continues to crush and destroy everything I love about it. What was it, 1997, when the CGI remakes came out? And it was kind of fun, seeing it in theaters again and a little interesting, seeing the new stuff--even though it was clear that it was terrible and the original version were superior. Then it came out that the original versions were going to be eliminated in favor of the remakes. Then, after over 15 years, we were finally getting the prequel trilogy...and got JarJar fucking Binks and everything else in that abortion; being resigned to watch two more terrible movies because now you're in--but NO MORE.

Then hearing that Disney bought the brand. Disney, with a proven track record of cranking out satisfying franchise entertainment. Except Disney in 2015 was different than Disney in 2012. And, amazingly, the final trilogy made one wish for the happier days when George Lucas was running things.

Something happened around 2015. Disney knows how to make money on entertainment. I guarantee since 1989 or so they literally have a recipe for it like Coke or KFC. But around 2015 they decided they were going to ignore the recipe.

Marvel, Pixar, Indiana Jones, Dr. Who, Star Wars, Disney live action remakes, Disney animation, there's probably others I'm forgetting, but they ran them all into the ground. Some more quickly than others.

Literally the best Star Wars since the origi8nal trilogy just finished two months ago.

Also is the "things you love about Star Wars" thread not the "make the exact same post about Disney you've made 50 times" thread.
