Thought of the evening: Women in the workplace

The Question said:
And the most attractive of them, IMO. I don't understand why a guy would be offended if his date offers to pay her own way on the date -- I would think a guy would be more offended by the feeling that he had to bribe a woman to spend some time with him.

You generally see that in older men.

Maybe you should look at all these women who do and believe in these notions as PEOPLE YOU WOULD NOT LIKE TO SPEND TIME WITH. Don't want to propogate these notions? Don't encourage them by dating them. The reason so many women have a ridiculous (and hypocritical) sense of entitlement is because because they believe (correctly) that they can get away with it.

I think a lot of this gender-role stuff is a problem for BOTH sides.

I actually don't have the problem with it you might imagine I do -- I'm not saying we should all go out and upheave everything (first and foremost because it can't be done, and secondly because no one could put it back together afterward).

But the issue was raised of why men make more money in the same positions, and the answer is shallow men and materialistic women.

The Question said:
But again we have the inherent assumption that I should be the one to invite you, rather than the other way 'round. That you're the treasure I'm hunting, not the other way 'round. :P

I see nothing wrong with women asking men out. And if they do, the woman should pay. It's easy to say "Would you like to be my guest...."
If I'm going to ask someone to my home for dinner, I don't tell them they have to bring their own food.

Well, that's mighty evolved of ya -- and something of a turn-on, too.

Well, no, of course not. And more dating should be done in the home, IMO, especially what with the state of home theater systems. No need to go out for dinner and a movie.

Would it be socially acceptable for me to hit women or not?
Lot of answers in this one. The point is that you can't call a women a member of a 'weaker' race and at the same time tell men they can't brawl with them as they would with other men. It's having your cake and eating it too.

You most certainly can call women physically weaker than men in general, because they are. It's a fact. And most women don't "brawl" either. I have no desire to be "equal" to men in that way. If you are searching for validation for wanting to beat on someone smaller and weaker than you, you wont get it from me.

;)

Exactly. There's no excuse for just wailing on someone smaller than yourself Then again, don't let someone smaller than yourself get away with trying to punk you, either. "Smaller and weaker" should never equal "has license to rough others up freely."

Well then, we wont talk in generalities. I have never EVER hit another person in anger in my life. I have been bitchy, I have yelled, I have cried, I have sulked, but I have never done anything that would put any man in danger of being harmed by me physically and I don't intend to.... unless he draws first blood.

The last man who used me as a punching bag because he was bigger and stronger and could, is dead and I'll make sure the next one is too.

Have a nice day....

Well shit. If there is a biological basis for what constitutes as sexism, then why the fuck is there so much effort to go against the grain?

Women are physically weaker. Good to have that established.

Because Nature is not fair, and because everyone is looking for the advantage over others. And in the bizarre environment we modern humans live in, more or less divorced from Nature, advantage can be legislated and often is.

Because not everything considered sexism involves physical strength.

Because wikipedia is the be all, end all to debates. And because I'm far too removed from this debate now and way too sleep deprived to boot to add much of personal relevance:

Masculinism

Men's Movement

Men's Rights

I am still unsure why those are three separate articles.

But still, it's important to remember sexism swings both ways. I, for one, am just a little bit tired of the doofus dad stereotype that sitcoms and television commercials seem to be getting away with in spades. Or custody battles where the mother is favored despite drug habits, abusive tendencies, etc.. Or the tilt in outcomes of his word/ her word for rape cases. Or the lack of attention that sexual assault on males receives, despite its relative prevalence.

I mean, it's a mistake to take these things too far and swing back into a anti-female sexist bias. But still -- our society doesn't take its small but significant anti-male bias into account nearly enough.

OK dear, it seems I owe you an apopogy.

At a news conference at an Italian restaurant, Tyson said he would likely go just four rounds and that future stops on the tour might include bouts with women, possibly professional boxer Ann Wolfe.

If it's good enough for Iron Mike, it's surely good enough for you.

Snacking on my ears, however, is out of the question!!

Ms. Wolfe, or rather her manager, has delined the invitation. It seems boxing with men is something Ms. Wolfe's team doesn't feel she can do, better.

Men ... get back out there and mow that yard, trim the bushes and the trees, clean out the flower beds, clean out the rain gutters, fix the car, drop the bill payments in the mailbox, and run down to the store and get me a box of Kotex and tampons. I'll order pizza and munch on these ice cream bon bons to tide me over until you're done and can watch the chick flick I just put in the DVD player.

Interesting discussion. Women can't be equal to men unless they can fight like a man. Okay. Men can't be superior to women, then, unless they can bleed for a week and not die.

^ uh huh, and in case you missed it the first time.....
