I didnt realise the second one was on 3, I was watching on HD which I assumed was a straight copy of BBC2, and they said it was two episodes in a row before the first one.

Sorry about that, I assumed you and Tomtrek werent posting because you noticed ten minutes in there was another one and started watching.

It may have something to do with the fact that Martha is a character people actually care about instead of the Torchwood Team who I couldn't give a shit about.

Well I quite liked tonight's episode, though I did prefer it when it was a TNG episode called "Conundrum". It made a change for them to focus on the characters more strongly, even if they weren't quite the characters true selves. Also I agree that Owen was better like this, although it was a bit stupid how he had his memory restored and suddenly had no use for his glasses. People don't just wear specs for the sake of it(except for Dr.Who)!

It's just visual shorthand. They used "wears glasses" to mean "shy". In the same way with Toshiko they use "being Asian" with "is good at Maths and computers".

I think it was a lost opportunity to turn Xianto into a serial killer but then not have him actually chase around Gwen and Tosh with an axe or anything.

Tosh is cute. Gwen only looks sort of attractive in that publicity shot for this series (it's printed on a bag from Forbidden Planet for some reason) where she's pouting. But then you realise she's only doing that to cover up her FedEx cap.
 
Tosh looks alright sometimes. But she's nothing special and I don't see what was so impressive about her one scene appearance in Doctor Who for RTD to think "SHE MUST BE IN TORCHWOOD!"
 
What is the shorthand for "the acting was so bad that I turned it to Charlie Rose right away" FIGURE OUT THAT AMERICAN -ISM YE!!
 
BBC3 episode spoilers:

UUUGUHHGFHHHHhh so Russel T. spends all of "Reset"'s Confitendtal talking out his smuggy ass aboyt how "In a show like Torchwood characters have to die to show how much Danger they're in" and then in the next episode OH LOOK WHAT A SURPRISE OWEN IS DEAD BUT STILL WALKING AROUND.
