Transformers: were they really that good?

I want to smell dark matter
The original ones made out of metal that turned into real cars and such were, the later plastic ones that turned into stupid space-cars weren't as good.
 
I stole my friends toy Optimus Prime head when I lost my own.
 
Yep. G1 were fantastic - of even better quality, if you can afford them, are the original Japanese toys they were based on (Diaclones). Of significantly higher quality & design, they used the same mould, with a few subtle differences.

In fact, Transformers didn't have a very long peak - probably 1984-86 at best, before they got so bloody gimmicky with 'Headmasters', 'Targetmasters', 'Pretenders' and shit like that.

Some of the best ones are the ones that fit into a larger Robot. The Predacons, Constructicons, Piranacons.

It was annoying how Optimus's hands always fell off though.
 
Depends how often you Transformed him. I have a brand new one in a G1 box, and the fittings and joints are very tight. The more you pulled the fists on and off, the looser they got.
 
I transformed him 98 times a day.
 
That happens to be his maximum transformage! He must have been drained of Energon by then. Poor No-mouthed bastard.
 
It was funny how after Transformers the movie everyone wondered why there was no matrix of power in their Prime toy's chest AND SMASHED IT UP.
 
I don't have any of my Transformers. Ask me a GI joe question and I'm all over it.

I have both Transformers and GI Joe. Nyah!

Also, He-man, Gobots and Thundercats.

No, Daniel Jackson hadn't even deciphered the glyphs for the Gate yet, so no expeditions to Atlantis for young TQ, sadly.

Oh, boo hoo, The Saint only had an oversized penis to play with. :)

Thanks to Gagh's link I can see I had Prowl, Vortex and Drag Strip as a kid, but there a couple of others I'm not sure about. I know I had a red and white jet fighter. Could that only be Starscream?
