Trevor Bauer suspended for two seasons by MLB; Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher to appeal ban

Major League Baseball announced a 324-game suspension for Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer on Friday, the equivalent of two full seasons and by far the most severe punishment handed out under the sport's domestic violence policy. Bauer promptly released a statement announcing he was appealing the suspension, thus becoming the first player to contest punishment through MLB's domestic violence policy. Bauer, 31, was accused of sexual assault by a San Diego woman who requested a restraining order and essentially alleged that he took consensual rough sex too far over the course of two encounters last April and May. An L.A. judge denied the woman a permanent restraining order in August, and the L.A. County District Attorney's Office declined to file criminal charges in February. But MLB has the autonomy to suspend players without a criminal conviction, and spoke to other women who also said they had been assaulted by Bauer. Bauer's suspension, if it holds through the appeal process, would last until the 19th game of the 2024 season, by which point his three-year contract with the Dodgers will have expired. The Dodgers would save the $28-plus million that remains on his contract in 2022 and the full $32 million on his contract in 2023.

Third woman accuses Los Angeles Dodgers' Trevor Bauer of sexual assault, says she's willing to testify in appeal hearing

She is the third known woman to accuse Bauer of sexual assault, and spoke with MLB as part of its investigation into Bauer's conduct before the league issued its discipline. Bauer has vowed to challenge the suspension before Martin Scheinman, baseball's independent arbitrator, who is faced with deciding whether commissioner Rob Manfred had "just cause'' for the discipline under the domestic violence policy agreed to in 2015.The woman, from Columbus, Ohio, said she is willing to testify in the arbitration hearing.

The Post reported. The woman said she met Bauer on a dating app in 2013, when he was pitching for Cleveland's minor league team, the Columbus Clippers. She told The Post that Bauer began choking her unconscious during sex without them discussing it first, later telling him that she was OK with being choked "to a certain point" -- before she passed out.

During one encounter in January 2014, when they were in a Cleveland hotel after the team's fan festival, the woman told The Post she passed out with Bauer's hands around her neck, only to be awoken by Bauer saying she had been convulsing on the hotel room bed. The woman said Bauer was apologetic for violating their established boundary, but that as their relationship continued over the years, he would frequently disregard her warnings and choke her to the point of unconsciousness.

Trevor Bauer’s Accuser Files Counterclaim Against Pitcher While His Arbitration Hearing Continues

A San Diego woman who last summer leveled sexual assault allegations against Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer has filed a counterclaim in California federal court, alleging Bauer committed sexual battery and battery. The legal filing comes a little over three months after Bauer, 31, filed his own defamation and tortious interference civil lawsuit against the woman and one of her attorneys, Newport Beach-based Fred Thiagarajah. “Bauer’s horrific pattern of sexual abuse speaks for itself,” reads the woman’s counterclaim. The filing also says that Bauer “sexually battered” the woman on two separate occasions in 2021. The counterclaim demands a jury trial and the woman is seeking damages, legal costs and “further relief as this Court may deem just and proper.”

Now pitching NIL deals: Suspended Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer

The proposal that landed this week before several dozen NCAA athletes was fairly typical: Would you be interested in promoting a product and making money for it? What made the pitch unusual was the pitcher.“ We are seeking motivated and talented college athletes to exclusively partner with me, Trevor Bauer it's aweso,” read the proposal, signed by Bauer. A copy of the proposal was obtained by the Times. Bauer has not pitched for the Dodgers in 14 months, after being first put on investigative leave and then suspended for violating baseball’s policy on sexual assault and domestic violence. Bauer is appealing the suspension, but in the meantime he is offering college athletes — primarily baseball players — the chance to earn money and gain exposure by promoting his Bauer Outage line of merchandise.

Dodgers' Trevor Bauer reinstated after suspension cut to194 games
Bauer has served 144 games of the suspension, but arbitrator Martin Scheinman essentially gave him credit for the time he served on MLB's restricted list in the second half of the 2021 season. Bauer will be docked pay through the first 50 games of the 2023 season but will be officially reinstated Friday.

Los Angeles Dodgers cut ties with embattled pitcher Trevor Bauer

The Los Angeles Dodgers officially cut ties Friday with starting pitcher Trevor Bauer, the embattled former Cy Young Award winner who was previously handed an unprecedented suspension following allegations of sexual assault. Bauer was designated for assignment, which means the Dodgers have until 2 p.m. ET on Thursday to find a trade partner. If they can't, Bauer will be placed on unconditional release waivers. If he clears those, which is considered the likely scenario, he'll become a free agent the following day. The Dodgers' decision came two weeks after an independent arbitrator trimmed Bauer's suspension from 324 games to 194, reinstating him immediately but docking his pay for the remaining 50 games to begin the 2023 season. The ruling triggered a 14-day window for the Dodgers to decide whether to add him to their 40-man roster.

Trevor Bauer becomes free agent after clearing waivers

Trevor Bauer became a free agent Friday when he went unclaimed on waivers, leaving the Los Angeles Dodgers responsible for about $22.5 million owed to the former Cy Young Award winner whose unprecedented 324-game suspension over sexual misconduct allegations was reduced by an arbitrator. Los Angeles designated Bauer for assignment on Jan. 6, the last day to restore him to the roster, after arbitrator Martin Scheinman cut the suspension imposed by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred from 324 to 194 games. The Dodgers placed Bauer in waivers Thursday. Bauer, who will turn 32 on Tuesday, hasn't pitched since he first faced sexual assault allegations in the middle of the 2021 season.

Trevor Bauer 'ready to compete,' debuts in Japanese minors

Shunned by Major League Baseball clubs, Trevor Bauer is trying to find his way in Japan, where fans are drawn by his celebrity status and seem unconcerned by domestic violence allegations against him. Bauer is in Japan on a one-year deal that could let him prove himself and return to MLB, where he was unable to find work this season after an arbitrator reduced his unprecedented 324-game suspension for violating the league's domestic violence and sexual assault policy. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred suspended Bauer in April 2022 after a San Diego woman said he beat and sexually abused her in 2021.

Trevor Bauer faces another sexual assault allegation, countersues

A fourth woman has accused former MLB pitcher Trevor Bauer of sexual assault in a lawsuit filed in Arizona. Bauer has countersued the woman for fraud, saying she is attempting to harass and extort money from him in the wake of similar allegations made by three other women. In an amended complaint filed Tuesday, the woman said she had an "unplanned pregnancy" after Bauer "violently sexually assaulted" her in December 2020. Bauer's attorneys, in court filings, described the situation as "a single sexual encounter" that "was consensual."
The woman, whom ESPN has chosen not to name, stated in her initial complaint that she had visited Bauer at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, several times before the assault. During those earlier visits, he held a "jagged steak knife to her throat" and choked her several times, according to her initial complaint filed in December 2022. She also accused Bauer of forcibly removing her clothes, sexually assaulting her and slapping her on December 13, 2020, before he used her butterfly braids "as a rope to choke me unconscious with my hair." In the amended complaint, her attorneys stated that the assault resulted in an unplanned pregnancy. The Arizona woman is suing Bauer for assault, battery and emotional distress, asking a judge to award her punitive damages "to punish Defendant for his conduct and to deter Defendant from engaging in such conduct in the future."

Trevor Bauer’s Legal Battles Continue While Pitcher Resumes Career In Japan

After serving the longest suspension in the history of Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy — first implemented in 2015 — pitcher Trevor Bauer embarked on a new professional path earlier this year, signing with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars in the Japanese Central League after the Los Angeles Dodgers released him. But despite playing in a different country halfway around the globe, Bauer’s legal entanglements persist in the U.S., where new sexual assault allegations have been leveled against Bauer by an Arizona woman in a civil claim filed in Arizona Superior Court. Most recently, the pitcher filed a motion in California federal court that requests sanctions against the San Diego woman — including dismissal of her civil counterclaim — for alleged witness tampering on multiple occasions. Bauer sued the San Diego woman last year for defamation and tortious interference, and she filed a counterclaim (also last year) alleging Bauer committed battery and sexual battery.
