True Blood 1.5 "Sparks Fly"

I like all those themes, Curiousa, but I've seen them expressed better in other shows (like, yes, Buffy and Angel!) I'll keep watching it anyway.

I've never understood the point of it either, and they ALWAYS have them come and perform for cultural festivals - apparently so we can all share in the traditions of the far North.

Buffy wasn't really that great. Never watched an episode of Angel.

I saw it a few times, and I've seen the movie a couple times.
 
I can't really remember the movie. It came out a couple of years before the TV show, didn't it?
the more I think about it....Not sure I even saw it.
 
The first three seasons of Buffy were great, and yes, it deserved all the buzz and attention. But the last four sucked ass, especially the fourth year where she went to college, then Xander got fat, Dawn showed up. And as much as I enjoyed Michelle's portrayal, she was a useless ploy that fucked up the show.
 
I must have seen the episodes after it started sucking.
 
The movie sucked and is absolutely unconnected to the tv series continuity: it was an unsuccessful early attempt at doing the premise with an entirely different cast and staff and studio interference. It should not be used to judge the show.

The show never sucked either: the first season was a below par with some good episodes, the second and third were great, the fourth and fifth were still very good, the sixth was a bit depressing and had some weird character choices but was still good and had probably the best episode of the whole show, the seventh started well then got dull in the middle but if you'd been watching for seven years at this point it wouldn't ruin the whole thing for you. IMMHO.

Also, Layfayette is a drug dealer but I guess it's okay because he's gay and black.

yeah - bit of a surprise that, as it's not in the book. But this is probably how they explain what happens to him in the future. (FORESHADOWING, not to be confused with FORESKINS or FOREPLAY)
 
Buffy was on during my "I'm way too busy having fun to watch TV" phase. I'm sure if it was on now, I'd love it obsessively.

I think we're supposed to have mixed feelings about Lafayette. He is funny, but he makes people uncomfortable.

^Taking liberties with a character is how I would reference it. HUGE liberties.
 
You have to make it marketable to the average viewer. Not just the (pardon me, gals) Twilight tweens who stayed up past their bed time to sneak a view at the ppv channels when their parents are asleep. This is a show for adults and, from what you're saying, a lot of the content in the novels was written for young women who are into dark-sided bad boys who feel melancholy at their vampiric state in life. Sorry, but there's enough romance novels out there without the sanguiphilia. I like the ass-kicking, drug-dealing, pole-smoking, queeny nigga. He is probably the most complex character on the show so far.

I'm really hoping that at least one of these characters, who is not antagonistic, enjoys their immortality and has fun.
