True Detective

I did notice and was extra glued as a result. I was actually convinced they'd stuck a few different takes together, but according to that article it genuinely was just one. Fuck! AMAZING episode!!

But hey The Walking Dead has Michonne standing around in a field effortlessly mowing down countless zombies. That's a great action scene too.

(I'M BEING SARCASTIC.)

HOLY SHIT THIS FUCKING SHOW.

Alright, so I was wondering why Marty was lying for Rust about how all that went down and now we know. Obviously Reggie Ledoux was not the serial killer, but he was awful. It's understandable that Rust and Marty would think they'd really captured the killer after finding those two kids, but the camera spent a long time making sure we knew Reggie didn't have the spiral tattoo on his back.

I do not think Rust is the killer, and I don't think Marty is either. I think Rust is still, after all these years, working the case. They haven't shown us why Rust left the police force yet, but I'm betting he has been obsessed with the case ever since that guy's confession and apparent suicide. IMO Marty's daughter is going to be the key to solving the case. They've shown us several times that something happened to her when she was a little kid. First with the dolls, then with the pictures she drew, and now she's captain of the varsity slut team.

I bet the serial killer is that sleazy preacher, or he is involved somehow.

I really want to get into this show because everyone I know (in RL and here on the web) is obsessed with it, but I dunno....It doesn't do a damned thing for me. Maybe it's because the first episode was slow to me, and I didn't feel invested in the characters.

I'M SORRY CAPTAINWACKY :rwmad:

Tis, the whole series is slow, but I like it that way. I have been tired of case of the week cop shows for a long time. There are lots of reviewers out there who think it's too slow, though.

There are points where it can feel, not slow, necessarily, but like they could flesh out more details. But overall I really like the slow burn pace. I just sit back with a whisky and let it wash over me (the show, not the whisky). It's all about the symbology, the looks and the clever dialogue ("glad you finally committed to something...").

This weeks one joined a lot of dots, which is great because it gives us even more to speculate about. Cassie, I read somewhere that the preacher did the sign of the cross backwards, so he must be part of the satanic cult. And that guy who kept insisting that the case be given to a task force must be another member. I wonder if we've seen any others.

I downloaded the Yellow King book too, but I think I'll wait til the shows over before reading it just incase it gives anything away.

It's all coming together now. They're shifting from remembering the past to investigating in the present. Rust and Marty together again!

I wonder how deep the coverup of all the killings goes? I don't think the 2002 police (boss guy? wtf did they call him?) is in on it, but what about the white haired older guy giving Rust the eye the day Rust quit? Also that was an epic fist fight between Marty and Rust.

I have the hardest time remembering the order of things when I try to talk about a tv show the next day.

White haired guy was there when Rust was suspended for questioning Tuttle. I can't remember if we've ever seen that guy before. He probably doesn't matter at all to the story, perhaps he's just higher up in the police force and is the boss of Rust and Marty's boss. MAYBE HE'S EVIL?

Rust mowed Marty's lawn, for real.

I don't remember the white haired guy from previous episodes but considering the timeframe it's impossible to tell if he's significant. I agree the police chief probably isn't involved. His concerns about Rust opening up old homocide cases "with no bodies" seemed legitimate.

I liked that Beth ordered a dirty martini and then Marty's wife ordered a "very dirty martini". A nice touch. He really does just look for younger models.

Good to know why Rust and Marty's partnership and Marty's divorce fell through, though as far as the case was concerned we really just had the existing info confirmed. It would've been nice to learn a little more there, but it seems we'll find out loads next week.

I don't get it either. It's the single least realistic aspect of the show. He's not even shown to be good in bed. He lets them do all the work!

I think there are women who are sexually attracted to cops, but he does get all the super hot girls after him and that's a bit off. It's also not very realistic that a runaway prostitute would be that gorgeous!

There are behind the scenes videos on this website http://www.darknessbecomesyou.com/ they are youtube videos, and I don't know if HBO has them blocked outside the US. They're really good.

probably something to do with the handcuffs...and there are some cute hookers out there.

Somewhere I'm sure.
