NYC was great. On the train young people got up and let me sit down. At one point downtown I was standing in the middle of a bunch of people and we were all squished together. Being slightly claustrophobic was surprised I wasn't freaking out because there wasn't a single part of me not being touched by another human being. However, oddly, it wasn't like personal squishing at all. We just all sort of jiggled through the congestion until we were clear of it.

It's like that in London too. I'm sure some people travel on the tube specifically so they can rub up against others, but most people do their utmost to give everyone else as much personal space as is possible in a packed train. Having said that, I have occasionally begun to topple over and in my panic to stop my fall I've grabbed hold of something squishy and rounded and not readily identifiable. Sometimes it's best not to look back.
