UNIFICATION

Lord Raffles said:
Trolling is a discipline comprising logic, ethics, aesthetics, metaphysics, and epistemology. Philosophy on the other hand is an investigation of the nature, causes, or principles of reality, knowledge, or values, based on logical reasoning rather than empirical methods.

Philosophy serves to give trolling a purpose.

Philosophy must provide the justification for the result.

Trolling is a method; from what I gather, the best means to work at practicing this method would be to examine the works of Konstantin Stanislavski and his method for acting. Techniques Stanislavski has developed to enhance an actor's ability to use his imagination, for example, are absolute must skilz for any troll.

It's my firm conviction that all trolls should come to grips with Stanislavski method and method acting as a whole.

Ten people to a forum you say? I agree; why not ten forums with 100 like-minded people? Things like troll kingdom should exist as mere recruiting grounds and barracks as well as a means of social development.

No doubt there is a certain finesse when trolling a BBS, and acting in the traditional sense is a great asset. But I've found you can troll people pretty well just by being yourself.

When seeking to create antagonism, one must just find your opponents button and then push it. If pushing that button requires a new persona to do it effectively, then all the better.

A good troll should have a big bag of tricks to pull from, not the least of which including a good acting method complete with character. A good bibliography helps, too.

The following quotation was taken from the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) of a mailing list dedicated to trolling.

Although not exactly a FAQ, this file is more of an explanation of why alt.syntax.tactical and the Tactical-List were created. It also lays down the foundation for the structure, strategy and protocol of usenet invasions.

* Invasion *

Each of us brings our own reasons, backgrounds and motivations into this scheme. What is important is that each individual brings into this their own brand of inspired mischief. In someways it is completely innocent.

In someways it is completely destructive.

Anyone can walk into alt.sex and post that pornography should be banned. Anyone can walk into rec.sport.baseball and say "baseball sucks".

It takes unbelievable skill and discipline to cause a PROLONGED flame war.

That is what we do. But it can only be done with talent, and numbers to match that talent. We only bring into the fold people who have the knack to use smarts to incite chaos, not stupidity to incite being ignored when people see a post and know what you're up to.

This ethos is what separates Lucy from actual trolls, throwing him into the refuse bin with all of the other annoying assholes out on the net (not to pick on an undeserving individual ;)).

I particularly agree with the "anyone can say baseball sucks" idea... there is being annoying, and there is trolling. What makes a good troll a great troll is the perception from the rest of the board that the troll is actually serious in his/her/its convictions. Making people argue with you without ever considering that you might not be serious.

That's one of the glories of text base communication - there is no real way to detect the seriousness of any given sentence, not without some sort of cheesy emoticon... :eggs: mmmm.... cheesy eggs..... If you can get your audience to sit and wonder if you are crazy, you've trolled them good.

That being said, things work different here at TK. We're all trolls, the regular rules don't quite apply here. To troll a troll takes cold hard fact. That, or pointing out how stupid they are.

Even with the rule that Trolls eat their own it still provides high drama and fun.

As long as you know it's just shits and giggles then you are fine.

I used to be a troll snob, but now i think both running into a Christian forum and shouting cock AND providing proof that Darwin was a liar in a Science forum are equally funny.
