Universal Healthcare

I clearly responded to this part: 'let the market control the majority of it, and the state step in and help take care of those who fall through the cracks.'

You ALREADY HAVE such a system, you moron. The above is the very ESSENCE of the American medical system, you dumbshit. As a Canadian, I would know that better than anybody.

Taxes pay for it, obviously, unless the hundreds of thousands, or millions, who use it don't pay taxes -- as in the case of illegal aliens, which is the case I mentioned.

So turn off the obnoxious bullshit font and take a powder, dipshit.

I don't think that's a fair comparison. Illegals clog emergency rooms (which is what those without insurance do). That's more of an issue of low-pop hospitals being flooded by border-hoppers.

Anc, you're frighteningly wrong about the German healthcare system.

The public health care system is based on pure BS socialism. You pay according to your income, not according to the risks you pose.
The private health care system is somewhat better.
Doctors get paid jack all and therefore are pretty happy to leave for greener pastures - such as Switzerland. Happy to take them, too. ;)

I surely hope none of you Americans need to pay for your next operation. Don't want to put that house which you DON'T own up as payment, do you? Meanwhile, I would be receiving the same operation for... well nothing. My home and all of my assets remain... MINE.

Dumb shit, aren't you? The US socialist system is far, far larger than our own, and I am CANADIAN. Americans are so dumb they believe that, because we have universal healthcare, our country is SOCIALIST. Since your country has a far larger 'socialist' system than our own, I guess then that the USA too is socialist, yes?

Americans are so stupid it gives me a fucking headache.

I'm not American.

Yeah, that pretty much jives with my understanding (except the Drs leaving didn't know that).

Although are you saying that Dr. wages are controlled by the state? What I like about it is even the state sector is insurance and not just free emergency care when shit goes wrong (edit: or at the other end, NHS). I consider that worse than a socialized national insurance scheme, as it ends up costing everyone else more.

Rather stupid little man, aren't you? Tell me, what is the difference between the US's private healthcare scheme, and our universal system? The MIDDLEMAN. Yours is any private company that sells insurance. Ours is the provincial government. There is but ONE difference. Our insurance is available to everyone, AND there is no profit motive, hence you stand no chance of getting fucked up your asshole. Private companies ALWAYS find ways to get out of paying the bills, whereas our 'company', being the provincial government, just shuts the fuck up, and pays the bill.

Will you dance like a monkey if I ask nicely? Mind you, I'm not asking nicely yet, just inquiring whether you would if I asked.

Yeah but that isn't really insurance. ;) That's just a "health care tax" based on your income.

Not all wages are set by the state - there are private hospitals just as there is private insurance - and according to the occasional article I read in managament magazines (German ones, so take it with a grain of salt) they're pretty decent (read: great). The public ones where every one gets to go - yeah, there were strikes a while back. IIRC, the figures tossed around were along the lines of 80'000 Euros/year.

A system you might arguably like is the Swiss one. Insurance is mandatory. There are three levels of insurance: "public", "semi-private" and "private". They're run by private companies, "public" gives you access to public hospitals and you get to stay in a room with three other people, semi-private gives you access to that plus private hospitals and there's only one other person in the room. Private you get your own room. The first approx. 200$ come out of your pocket, then it's 10% up to a fixed sum (around 7k, IIRC).

My parents are paying about 200$/month for my semi-private insurance but we had to up the limit to how much we pay ourselves to 1500, otherwise it would have been around 300/month.

Ah yes, the old 'the rich shall receive better care, off the backs of those who made them rich' adage.
