Unplugged returns!

Theres a good story in today's USA Today about MTV reviving the old 90's workhorse Unplugged. Up this week: Bon Jovi (Welcome to the 21st centruy, NOT!), next week: The Police (What? Howard Jones was busy?)

In all seriousness, I'm pretty excited about The Police next week, mainly because I'm too poor to be able to afford tickets to their tour. The article (no, I'm not linking - I only link to porn) hits the high points of Unplugged history and really made me nostalgic for the early 90's. So here's my Top 5 list of favorite Unplugged performances:

5) LL Cool J - Really showed that rap can be real music, instead of just some untalented hacks ripping off old rock songs. He really should have used a spray deodorant, though.

4) KISS - What can I say? I almost teared up when Ace & Kris came onstage.

3) Nirvana - Proved Grunge could be more than just flannel shirts & unwashed hair. Music really started going to hell after Nirvana ended.

2) Neil Young - All Neil needs is a guitar & a harmonica. No band, no f/x, no special lighting.

1) Eric Clapton - The pinnacle of Unplugged. Resurrected Clapton's career and the blues as a commercially viable genre.

Honorable mentions to Fleetwood Mac & the Eagles (Their comeback specials were on Unplugged, but they were'nt really 'unplugged.')

Now that The Police are going to be on, my Top 4 wishlist is Pink Floyd, Boston, ZZ Top, and Styx (not that they ever would - Floyd - or are even possible - Boston).

Meh. Unplugged always bored the hell out of me.

Fuck MTV. God, I can't even put into words my intense hatred of that network. It's hard to believe they're the ones who gave us the glory of Beavis and Butt-Head.
