Shut the fuck up, CeeJayUkraine war live updates: Finland officially becomes the 31st member of NATO; Russia warns it will take ‘countermeasures’
Finland officially became a member of the NATO defense alliance on Tuesday, ending years of “military non-alignment.” The Nordic country’s historic decision to apply to NATO — prompted by its neighbor Russia’s war against Ukraine — is one of the biggest geopolitical changes in Europe to come about as a direct consequence of the conflict. On Tuesday, Finland’s president, Sauli Niinisto, traveled to NATO’s headquarters in Brussels to complete the accession process and Finland’s flag was raised among those of its fellow members. Turkey, the last holdout on Helsinki’s accession to the military coalition, gave its approval on Finland’s membership bid on March 30. Sweden’s membership bid, made at the same time as Finland’s, is still awaiting approval.

Russia threatens Ukraine eastern supply lines as it has 'likely' seized Bakhmut town center: UK intel
Russian forces are threatening a key supply route for Ukraine troops and have "likely" seized the center of Bakhmut after more than six months of brutal fighting over the town, the U.K. defense ministry said Friday. Russian troops, largely led by Wagner mercenary forces, have been attempting to encircle the town to pinch it from the north and south, and on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he would pull their forces from the area if that threat became too great. "In recent days, Russian forces have regained some momentum in the battle for Bakhmut. Since late March 2023 their advance had largely stalled," the ministry said in its daily intelligence assessment. "Russia has made further gains and has now highly likely advanced into the town center, and has seized the west bank of the Bakhmutka River."

U.S. aims to rally allies to up pressure on Russia, shore up Ukraine support
The U.S. government will seek to rally allies this week to ratchet up economic pressure on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, and shore up support for Kyiv, a top U.S. Treasury official is slated to say on Monday. Treasury Undersecretary Jay Shambaugh will underscore the United States' unwavering commitment to Ukraine in a speech at the Brookings Institution as global finance officials gather in Washington for the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, according to excerpts obtained by Reuters. Shambaugh, who traveled to Kyiv with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in February, said current inflationary pressures could not be separated from the war and its economic spillovers. "The United States is redoubling our efforts to rally our global coalition of allies at the Spring Meetings on Treasury’s two lines of effort as part of the United States’ unwavering commitment to Ukraine," he said in the prepared remarks. That means "shoring up economic support for Ukraine’s government and people, and ... continuing to deny (Russian President Vladimir) Putin the revenue and military equipment he needs to further his illegal war."
