WWE shareholders file second lawsuit against Vince McMahon even as he amends bylaws to take more control

More WWE shareholders are taking to court to argue that Vince McMahon is acting against their best interests while he simultaneously takes more actions to ensure he doesn’t have to listen to them. The language in the lawsuit is similar to a previous suit filed in the same court by WWE stockholder Scott Fellows, and the essence of the complaint is the same: that McMahon stacked the board with hand-picked directors and threatened to withhold his support over media rights or sale negotiations if he wasn’t reinstated as executive chairman.

The WWE Is Putting Vince McMahon's Name On WrestleMania Advertising, Which Has Fans Concerned

Vince McMahon welcoming fans back on Smackdown.

WrestleMania 39 is just around the corner, and since the event is taking place in Hollywood, the WWE has gotten creative with its advertising. The wrestling organization has made fake trailers and posters parodying popular movies as a way to drum up attention for the big two-night event, and it's working. Unfortunately, some people might be focusing on the wrong details, as one eagle-eyed fan noticed that at least one of the promotional images features Vince McMahon's name. Seeing Vince McMahon's name on a piece of advertising for WrestleMania 39 is surprising. While the WWE has brought back McMahon amid his various scandals and controversies to negotiate a sale of the company, he hasn't been a part of any filmed segments or returned in any capacity as an on-screen character. Throwing his name in the promotion as an Easter egg is uncharacteristic of what we've seen in previous months from the WWE.

Vince McMahon Says “I’ve Made Mistakes” But “Owned Up To Every Single One” As WWE And UFC Finalize Merger

Vince McMahon called Monday “a great day” as his iconic company announced plans to sell a controlling stake to Endeavor in a merger with mixed martial arts firm UFC. “Things have to evolve. A family business has to evolve, for all the right reasons. And this is the right business decision, and it’s the right family decision,” he said in an interview today on CNBC. McMahon’s father founded WWE in 1953 and colorful Vince McMahon has been its public face for decades, growing it into an international powerhouse. But the majority owner of WWE stepped down as CEO, then from the board in 2022 amid a scandal over payments to hush up sexual encounters. He returned as a director last year to explore strategic alternatives, i.e. a sale. WWE had to restate some of its earnings to incorporate the payments. Vince McMahon Exits Investor Cases After $17.4 Million Payment

  • Investors say case is moot after McMahon repaid costs of probe
  • Move effectively ends Delaware litigation over his WWE return

Vince McMahon is free from investor litigation in Delaware over his surprise return to the WWE Inc. board amid “horrifying” sexual assault and hush money allegations. Shareholders leading the consolidated lawsuit agreed to drop it Wednesday, saying their claims became moot when McMahon agreed in late March to repay $17.4 million the company wracked up investigating him. Vice Chancellor J. Travis Laster granted the motion the same day. The payment appears to cover only the cost of the probe, not the nearly $20 million McMahon allegedly paid his accusers since 2007. Counsel for the WWE investors indicated they plan to seek a “mootness fee” as a reward for their role in forcing McMahon’s hand. A different group of shareholders is already seeking a mootness fee after dropping a related case when McMahon walked back some bylaw changes he’d pushed through as part of his corporate coup in early January. McMahon had left the board in mid-2022.
