Vista is giving me vertigo

CaptainWacky

I want to smell dark matter
Not to mention Internet Explorer 7. WHY DO THINGS HAVE TO CHANGE? I need Menty to teach me how to use it.

HAHAHAAHAH!
How do you like that that resource eating piece o shitware?
Give it 4 gigs and it'll overheat your video card just for the sake of fucking Aero.

I could get rid of it and install XP if needs must.

If you're gamer, it's gonna be a nightmare.

Did you get a new computer Wacky? I'm gonna get one soon, but I really don't want Vista.

I've had it crash a number of times when I try to fool with the Aero settings. It is a resource eating piece of shitware BUT OOOOH! LOOK! NEW BUTTONS AND SWIRLY GIMMICKY THINGS!

Ridiculous. The 4gb's or RAM and SLi issue is down to drivers and has been fixed as far as I know. Besides, how many people have 4gb's or RAM and two SLi'd 8800's?

If you're gamer, it's gonna be a nightmare.

I've been running Vista since the first beta release and I have had minimal issues in all areas. Some frustrating compatibility issues and unhappy with the time it's taking to get stable drivers or some hardware but that's it.

I love how people start bitching about Vista without first paying attention to how they use a computer.

As for IE7... It's a solid browser. A MASSIVE improvement over IE6 which was a security nightmare among other things.

Vista isn't as bad as people say. It gets more flak than it deserves IMO. It's trendy to bash Microsoft and Vista and it's fair to say that the issues that have cropped up so far have been inexcusable but I must admit it makes me laugh when people start extolling the virtues of XP just because they hate Vista. Same people hated XP.

Why don't we all go back to 98SE and be done with it. Or even better.. if you don't like Windows buy a fucking Mac or switch to Linux. I'm SURE you will never have another computer annoyance in all your days!

I'll be happy to give you a hand getting to grips with Vista though Wacky. I felt like a fish out of water when I first started to use Vista. It takes a while to get used to it and then it seems second nature.

I had to hunt hard for a decent scanner that was compatible with it, but got there in the end.

Oh, and it runs BioShock on my 22 Inch Widescreen monitor like a dream.

BioShock is awesome. I've been playing Crysis recently. My retinas bleed it's so pretty.

I think my fucking awesome spanking new spec may have something to do with the manic framerate it plays BioShock at, however.

I learned how to use a computer with XP.. I think my head would explode if I tried to use Vista.

OH AND I have IE7 and Firefox, don't have a problem with either one. They are very similar.

IE7 seems heavily influenced by Firefox. Which is a good thing.

I've been using Vista for seven hours now and it's running well. The small layout differences between it and XP are frustrating just because I was so used to XP, but nothing has been THAT hard to figure out. And I don't even know what "Aero" is. But that's probably because I switched to the Windows classic theme right away to cut down on confusion.

I wonder what the chances are of Bill GAYtes insisting the next version of Windows being called "Glory Hole" are?

Vista is crap, end of the story.
Eventually Microsoft will manage to push it down everyone's throat, but for now I have it running on VMWare just to see how the garbage looks.
It reminds me of when Microsoft released Windows ME. What he hell was that? 98 w/ extra garbage.
Vista's only security is asking you about every fart it needs to pass.
Just learn Xp's process handling and it's a dream.
As for MAc, it's for gays and i love Linux, too bad most of the population is too dumb to learn it.
Maybe Ubuntu will change that. One day...

Did anybody else know that typing classes are now available off the back of cereal packets?

DO YOU THINK LUCAS AND GATES EVER GET TOGETHER AND HAVE MONEY FIGHTS?

Is that so? So I guess the kernel overhaul and new architecture have nothing to do with it? Remember XP before Service Pack 1? It was dire. Vista has some interesting approaches to security by minimizing the access third parties have to the kernel.

What you seem to be talking about is UAC. It's invasive, yes. But at least it's an option. Why don't you just do what everyone else does and turn it the fuck off? It's the first thing I do on a new PC.

Go to the start menu and type: msconfig

Go to Tools and scroll down to "Disable UAC"

Reboot and there you have it. Wow.

Yeah, except the WAY Xp manages processes sucks balls. Completely new architecture on Vista so their are far less memory leaks among other things.

I am not a Vista fanboi by the way. It has problems. Stupid problems. I'm just saying that the level of abuse it recieves is ridiculous. It is NOTHING like Windows ME by the way. It's amazing that piece of shite was boxed at all. Vista is a progression and improvement on XP in many ways. XP still has it beat in pure compatibility but I personally only run in to a compatibility issue once in a blue moon and I run a vast amount of different software. Games are the same. I run DOS games on Vista with more ease than I did on XP for Christ sake. I'm playing through Monkey Island 1 right now.

Oh, and it's pretty... I like pretty..

Wacky -- just use Firefox. Not because it's imperically better or anything, but because it frees you from some of Windows "helpful" privacy intrusions while you're browsing.

I'm not gonna get into the XP versus Vista debate because I can't go feature-for-feature in a debate. All I can say is for the AVERAGE user (not the expert), it's not just that we are sheep suddenly extolling the virtues of XP and demonizing Vista. At this stage of the OS game, XP/Vista is more "better the devil you know than the devil you don't."

Microsoft is Microsoft. That doesn't change when they happen to do OK by one release. And even that is arguable.
