Volpone, you better be fucking right!

Ooops. Yeah, you definitely want to have "All Supported Programs" opted-in. That should let you search/install any or all of the programs kept in Ubuntu's software repositories and not just the Canonical stuff.

Okay, what the fuck.... I'm typing:

mount c c:\home/matthew/dosgames/ultimavi
mount c file_system/home/matthew/dosgames/ultimavi
mount c home/matthew/dosgames/ultimavi

Nothing.... what the hell?!?!

Okay, we're either dealing with a syntax or file path error here, I think.

If you're sure the correct file path is /home/matthew/dosgames/ultimavi, make sure you have the leading / in the file path as shown above. If it's not actually there, then you'll have to dig around and find the correct file path.

Otherwise, I can verify that the game works:

:D

NOOOOO!!!!!! DON'T PICK IT UP, IT'S A TRAP!!!!!!

Okay, so my disk drive is called filesystem (can't rename it to C:), then there is a folder named home, then the only folder is named matthew, then inside it is DOSGames and in it is ultimavi

I'm confused. :(

Aha...capitalization.

mount c ~/DOSGames/ultimavi

-or-

mount c /home/matthew/DOSGames/ultimavi

(The ~ can be used as a shortcut so you don't have to type /home/matthew all the time)

Success!!!!

And then failure.... HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET OUT OF DOSBOX?!?!? I'm in Waller Hall shamming out when all of a sudden the sound starts working.... Well.... aparantly DosBox doesn't understand the function key (how my volume control is used).... fuck, quick, Alt+Tab. Alt+Tab ALT+TAB ALT+TAB ALT+TAB (everyone staring at me as crossbows fire). FUCKKKKK!! Ctl+Alt+Del.... ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. Every button on the keyboard in sequence. FUCKING SHIT. The flat hand press..... everyone really staring now. Okay fuck this, Power Down!

Aye, that game seems to like taking over the computer entirely. :)

CTRL+F1 will give you a screen where you can view/reset key bindings. CTRL+F9 seems to be the ticket for exiting the game.

Jeez, I'd forgotten what a pain in the ass some of these old DOS games could be.

After a bit of Googling, I found out that Ultima 6 (or at least the version I "found") already had a character set up and saved, so it was suggested that I run install.exe to set up the game options first. Install to hard drive, set up graphics, sound, blah, blah, blah, then you can save those settings and erase the previous character that's in there. Then I could run the game and create a new character for myself.

After that, I've found that CTRL+S can save a game, CTRL+E can exit the game back to DOS, but I haven't yet found a way to load a saved game.
