Wacky Watches: Don't Trust The B____ In Apartment 23

CaptainWacky

I want to smell dark matter
I will be using this list to watch the episodes in their INTENDED ORDER rather than the almost random order ABC originally aired them in: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1819509/faq

Pilot - The first thing we see of Chloe (Krysten Ritter) is her having sex with June's fiance on her birthday cake. June (Dreama Walker) in voiceover tells us it's the best thing that ever happened to her. It's a good introduction to both! We then flashback to see June lose her job (also introducing Eric Andre as Mark) and the events which lead to her moving in with Chloe (he we find out has James Van Der Beek as her straight gay best friend and yes he's playing himself!) June is warned not to trust the bitch in apartment 23 (the name of the show!) by Robin (Liza Lapira) and sure enough the next day Chloe is encouraging pervy neighbour Eli (Michael Blaiklock) to masturbate over June in an attempt to drive her out so Chloe can keep her rent money. But June is tougher than Chloe thinks and than a bunch more stuff happens! I mean, really, a lot of stuff. It's a lot of plot for a twenty minute pilot, but it's funny all the way through.

Krysten Ritter is great right away as Chloe, getting several laughs (from me) just with her facial expressions. Dreama Walker is adorable as June. James Van Der Beek is a great man and a comedy natural. The other characters don't make much of an impression (I mean Eli gets literally two lines) but I don't feel that's a problem yet. I think it's a pretty good pilot. On the downside, as I said, a lot happens and I guess someone who isn't into this kind of wacky humour (it's not a Friends style sitcom) might find it hard to care about it all. While Chloe is a good character she doesn't quite live up to the billing of being "the bitch in apartment 23" as she only spends a couple of minutes being mean and by the end her and June are already friends. But I liked it!

"Dawson is the moon!"

Daddy's Girl - Okay, first the most important thing: JVDB's tailor and confidant Luther (Ray Ford) makes his first apperance! I like him RIGHT AWAY. But anyway the main plot is Choe trying to set June up with a guy, the twist being that it's actually Chloe's dad. That's so Chloe! The moment where she just casually says "goodnight dad" is very funny. Chloe's mum shows up in a wheelchair too! We get to know the characters better after the pilot being slightly rushed. Chloe is nuts but in a kind of well meaning way and June is optimistic but not naive and they work well together! Eli gets a kind of funny scene, Robin...is just there. Not being funny. The running joke about Mark's weird girlfriend is introduced and it does a lot to add character to him. There's a subplot where JVDB wants to be taken seriously as an actor. The plot with Chloe's dad doesn't really have an ending. Chloe just pushes him in front of a car. Which is funny because of how abrupt it is but a bit unsatisfying as the actual end of the plot. Still, it has a lot of funny lines (mainly in the Dawson plot) and is a decent episode.

"You're everywhere and nowhere, Dawson!"

Mean Girls - To show how badly ABC fucked up this show, this episode was aired as episode ten OF SEASON TWO. It's supposed to be the third episode of season one! That's crazy! It really feels like a third episode of season one as it starts with June talking about how she's only recently moved to New York and she's still trying to get to know Chloe. But Chloe doesn't want to be friends because she has a wacky lifestyle to live and June doesn't fit in there. Chloe feels more harsh than in the previous two episodes. And more of a drunk. June make friends with some girls from her pilates class instead and Chloe doesn't like them. Chloe interacting with these girls is the best part of the episode. Then, in typical fashion, things get weird and June thinks Chloe's murdered one of the girls. Chloe finds out and tries to trick June into thinking she really did it, but June TURNS THE TABLES by pretending she's cool with murder, all to get Chloe to admit they're friends. It's nice stuff. They should have shown this as the third episode of season one!

The JVDB subplot isn't as good as previous weeks though, but he still leaves a little girl to be beaten up on a train. Which is funny!

Eli's actualy working pretty well as a characater at this point but Robin's still bad.

I should have mentioned before that I enjoy June's parents (they appear by web cam.) Her dad is going to send her a rape whistle but warns her not to get raped next to a marching band. It's a good rape joke and I don't usually like rape jokes!

I've been really enjoying it. Currently up to season two episode three. Don't know where they all went. It's just so watchable.

Does anyone know why the episodes were shown out of order? Can't say it's caused any problems for me, but it's an odd thing to do.

Making Rent - Chloe and June are friends now but Chloe's still nuts and trying to run the roommate scam on two other girls. June is struggling to pay rent. Chloe goes to James for help but Luther (WHO IS GREAT) runs his finances and he hates Chloe (she didn't read his play) so that doesn't work! June thinks the solutiion is her homemade jam and surprisingly Chloe agrees and we get an adorable jam making montage. OBVIOUSLY it's not as simple as that and in fact Chloe has set up a fetish site showing videos of June making her hot hot jam. It's pretty great! We get a sexy version of the jam making montage! Sadly this morphs into a story with June manipulating Rubon out of money to spend time with Chloe and it's hard to care about that because Robin isn't a good character. She falls through a railing at the end but they don't kill her off. Sadly!?

Eli is filming the jam stuff (and other fetish videos, including a bit with Robin that's kind of funny...I guess?) but he's also a health inspector and we see him out of the apartment for the first time. They're expanding the Bitch 23 universe! There's a tag where he takes a bath in jam which is quite funny too.

While the main story is good this is ALSO the episode with Beek Jeans and the "meatballs!" billboard and really who wouldn't want to put their cheeks in a Beek? His jeans end up being popular with gay Japanese hipsters ("arigato heyy!") and YEP all those memorable moments are in this one subplot!

Also June and Mark go to a Korean church where the pastor is ROSALIND CHAO. That's Keiko O'Brien! She's good in this.

Seriously though Luther quoting lines from his own play is GOLD!

(COINTUNITY NOTE: This is the first episode where it's mentioned that James will be on Dancing With The Stars and that story was totally mangled by the original air dates.)

The Wedding - June is invited to a wedding she was supposed to attend with her fiance and feels bad, so Chloe teaches her to be more like Chloe. It's the first time June is actually learning lessons from Chloe and it's good stuff! It makes sense that June has adjusted to living in Chloe's world and is willing to learn from her now. (Also let's just make shallow mention of the fact that Dreama Walker looks REALLY HOT acting like Chloe.) Chloe ends up getting jealous of how good June is of being her and Krysten Ritter does some AMAZING face acting. Krysten Ritter is amazing you guys.

Junes goes to the wedding with James, Chloe attends with Kevin Sorbo (he thinks it's a benefit for MS! He ends up making an MS themed wedding speech which is the most I've ever enjoyed Kevin Sorbo.) Eli is there with his band. Chloe invites June's ex to come to hurt her. Chloe can be a bitch! But Chloe feels bad when the ex calls June boring and they put on a scene with James (who uses his dancing AND acting skills!) to make June seem interesting and it's pretty great! This is the best episode so far. The previous one was probably funnier but this one had the best and most complete plot. This is an episode I'd show people to say "see, this is a functioning tv show!"

Mark and June's parents don't appear this time at all and that's fine! You don't need every character in every episode.

The Scarlet Neighbour - Another season one episode that was aired in season two, y'all! June prides herself on being a good neighbour and is embarrassed by Chloe being a registered sex offender (she had sex with a 17 year old when she was 18.) June's outrage at Chloe here feels like a bit of a character regression after the previous episode but I guess we'll always have to go back to June being outraged by Chloe a bit because of the nature of Chloe's character. June wants Chloe to settle down with an appropriate guy and be respectable and it's all a bit slut-shamey. It's the most unlikable June has been yet (and probably will ever be) and maybe that's why it was moved to season two?

Mark breaks up with his girlfriend and grows his sideburns really long. Chloe gets the hots for him (thinking he's an appropriate guy) but the upshot is that she realises Mark likes June. So that's the start of that story and you can see why it would have made sense to show this episode in the right order.

There's a (brief) subplot where Luther becomes JVDB's new wingman and there's more great Luther moments!

June realises it was wrong to try to change Chloe and Mark gets back with his girlfriend for some reason and Chloe says "arigato heyyy" and that's that. It's the weakest episode so far but still funny.

(Eli doesn't appear at all so that means Robin is the only character other than the core three to appear every episode. Which is weird.)

Could be a case of ABC panicking over low ratings or the reaction to the pilot and moving episodes about think it would help ratings. Like they move a "good" episode forward and keep a "bad" episode back (like the example in my review of The Scarlet Neighbour being a weaker episode.) I think they cut season one short because of ratings or something and that's why season two had so many episodes (some of which weren't even on tv.)

Whatever It Takes - June is struck in a rut. Chloe wants her to do "whatever it takes" (the title of the episode!) to get a good job. June's mum likes JVDB and talks to him about Dancing With The Stars over webcam and...this episode's kind of dull, to be honest? Chloe hooks up with a guy (and this scene is another masterclass in comedy acting from Krysten Ritter) and it gets June a job interview. Turns out the guy's mentally challenged (he was hit in the head) and Chloe was so drunk she didn't notice (her martini goggles.) June tries to keep Chloe drunk to keep dating the guy (Trey.) It isn't very funny! Sorry! The Trey character is the kind of comedy character I find painfully unfunny (he just says random words in a stupid voice.) Chloe ends up quitting the job because her boss is a horrible sexist.

This is the weakest episode yet. This was another episode bumped back to season two (but shown before the previous episode, just to be extra confusing!) and I can see why this time.

Dean Cain appears in the JVDB story but he's no Kevin Sorbo.

James has a new catchphrase: "James like you." Chloe says "hmm, thought it was AIDS." These bits are funny.

Let's move on...

It's Just Sex - This is the first episode that doesn't start with a voiceover from June. Instead there's the scene where June is masturbating in the bath and Chloe walks in and YES it's that scene that I've reblogged gifs of many times on tumblr. Dreama Walker and Krysten Ritter's face acting here is amazing! Chloe teaches June about casual sex. She has a sex tape with James! Rosalind Chao ends up seeing it! And getting a nose job! She's wacky! A porn company ends up with the tape. June has casual sex with a hot guy and she likes it and that's good! June gets too attached to the guy, but it's not really a "casual sex is bad" message it's a "it's not right for June" message. And that's fine! Her lady harp has feelings. Chloe realises she cares about James too much to make a porno with him and can understand June's point of view. It's a good episode, much better than the last one.

James' relationship with June's mother continues. Eli returns after being absent the last two episodes. Robin...is used pretty well? She's not annoying? Progress! Ellen who works in the coffee shop (she's weird!) makes her first appearance too (I think!?)

James' cologne "Love Hurricane" was upstaged by Katrina!

The Leak - James is getting serious about Dancing With The Stars and hides out with Luther in a secret location to get ready after getting "lost in his head." We get more Luther, so that's good (Luther and June are friends because their grandmothers both make pies.) June teaches Chloe to be nice so that she'll be nice to Luther and get access to James. Of course she's only nice to him for as long as it takes to steal his phone and goes to see James and throw his regime into chaos. But he keeps training and she leaks a pic that makes it look like he peed his pants. Chloe claims this will help James but everyone laughs at him. Yet he still ends up thanking her for helping him get "out of his head." The message is sometimes being a real friend means telling friends something they don't want to hear! Okay! The episode is okay. Not one of the best but not bad.

Robin made a youtube video called "sax cat." Eli has a party for someone whose retiring at work. So those two characters are still around!

Parent Trap - This episode was aired third in the first season despite there being nine episodes before it! That's the kind of weid thing us Apartment 23 fans had to put up with! It starts with a voiceover from June, which the last few episodes have lacked. I wonder if they added it at the last minute when they decided to air it as the third episode? We may never know.

June gets an internship. Mark wants her to take on more responsibility at the coffee shop at the same time. How can she do both things! Chloe fosters a child to be her assistant. That Chloe! June has to look after the kid too. Obviously June struggles with all this and she goes nuts and shakes the kid. Which is funny!

James reads for a body swap movie (with Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka! She's great!) where he swaps bodies with a twelve year old girl. It's never been attempted before. Turns out having an adult man playing a twelve year old girl is pretty creepy ("do you think I liked having to make out with mommy today?") so that's why it's never been attempted before!

"I'm all about the goldfish. Want to have sex?"

Shitagi Nashi - June is enjoying being cool now until she gets alcohol poisoning (with good use of Robin in the emergency room! "Yeah June, from too much woo-hooing") and can't drink anymore. Then she finds out Chloe is in a graphic novel in Japan named Tall Slut, No Panties. June is worried that she and Chloe have nothing in common without alcohol. She finds out Chloe actually knew about the comic and liked it and shows Chloe the comic she wrote as a teenager. Chloe sets it on fire. June makes friends with the author of the comic and he changes it to Strong Bowling Girl Talks A Lot. June writes an issue of her comic guest starring Tall Slut, No Panties and Chloe feels better. Aww!

James is angry that Dean Cain's dressing room is six inches bigger than his and blames Luther. He gets Luther to make the dressing room look nice in an attempt to trick Dean into taking the room, but Dean knew all along! James breaks through the wall and steals Fred Savage's dressing room and gives it to Luther! Aww!

This is one of the sweeter episodes with nice friendship moments for the two friendships we care about.

When June was a teenager she wrote an issue where she and her friends broke into the Dawson's Creek set and forced James to be their algebra teacher.

Bar Lies - Chloe tells harmless lies in bars to get free drinks. But she "falls down her lie hole" and pretends to be a realtor to rent James' appartment out while he's away doing Dancing With The Stars. June feels bad for not telling James. Then she finds out her own mother lied to her because she's gone to LA to see James in DWTS. June starts telling lies because everyone else does! But she's not good at it. She learns a lesson and Chloe kind of does, maybe!

June's mum accidentally doses James with drug-filled tea and he has a meltdown live on tv. But we get to see his full dance routine anyway at the end of the episode because they had time to fill, maybe! The episode is decent.

No Robin or Mark. It turns out the weird girl in the coffee shop is called Pepper? Maybe I should have kept track.

"He has to go. He saw John Goodman."
"Norm!"

A Weekend In The Hamptons - Chloe, June, James, Luther and Robin go to the Hamptons after James' DWTS meltdown. He has DWTSPTSD. Chloe wants to go on a bender but June just wants to buy fruit and milk goats and then it turns out Chloe's wild friend had babies. James goes off on his own. Chloe forces June to come with her to the bender party thrown by the mysterious Willoughby. June brings a pie to the party...and Willoughby is Chloe's husband Bernard? That's a twist! Chloe is depressed because she really wanted to have sex with WIlloughby but she has sex in the bushes with Lenny Kravitz and feels better!

James ends up with Mark somehow (his girlfriend dumped him again) and they become bender buddies. They ened up doing James' DWTS routine together at the party. James writes his own movie, a cop drama called 'Fingered'.

This episode is good it has funny lines and moments.

June saying "bye goats!" to some goats is adorable.

Season 2

A Reunion - Yep, season two! Luther is now a regular cast member! Robin isn't! It's all change! James turns down a Dawson's Creek reunion every year. June got a new job in last season's finale but she's back in the coffee shop again? I don't know what happened there. Anyway, she thinks James should do the reunion and convinces him to do it with a makeshift living room presentation. But it turns out Chloe's the one sending him the letters inviting him to a reunion every year! Oops! June still wants to go ahead but Chloe uses a tranq gun on her (there's a lot of tranq gun stuff here and it's all gold!) and changes James' mind. For a few minutes. He wants to do it but now June finds out her friends who used to watch The Creek with her don't care about it anymore. And James finds out Katie Holmes and the rest all hated him. Aww. Really a lot happens in this episode and I was going to write down every plot development but there's too many! It ends with a viking funeral for James' Dawson's Creek stuff in Central Park.

Malcolm in the Middle makes a guest appearance ("you're feeling neglected...because you're in the middle.") AND Zack Morris(!) but even better THE GAY JAPANSE HIPSTER texts "arigato heyyy!" to James because Chloe's using grindr to stalk him.

James buys a woman from the Creek a whole chicken because he doesn't know what women eat.

"There's nothing like Tranq'ing a hot Austrian man and hearing the body fall. Tranq sex, it's consensual." Only Krysten Ritter could say that.

This is one of the best episodes yet as it has COUNTLESS great lines all the way through and continues to pile crazy plot development on crazy plot development. A great start to the second season!

I just saw the second Dean Cain episode (but clearly it wasn't really the second...). June's mum spoke to James for the first time. But she'd spoken to him before about ten episodes ago. If I didn't know the episodes were out of order I would have been so confused!

It's a Miracle - It's the Thanksgiving episode, which is apparently supposed to come before the Halloween episode, even though ABC aired it after. Which makes more sense since Thanksgiving is after Halloween! ABC actualy got it right? But I'm determined to watch them in the order JVDB posted on his Facebook so here we are.

Chloe brings June with her to Chloe's parents' house for Thanksgiving. But June and Chloe's dad had a thing, remember? That's going to be awkward! Chloe makes June pretend to be in a wheelchair to level the playing field with Chloe's mum. She ends up getting on well with Chloe's mum while Chloe's dad ignores her. They have an awkward dinner. June gets drunk and angry. Chloe is angry that June is ruining Thanksgiving instead of her and shows that June can walk...and to be honest this plot isn't all that great. It isn't funny enough. It just kind of fizzles out. It was all a plan by Chloe to con her family out of money and she gives some money to June so that's nice. They have a fake fight that's a bit funny.

JVDB and Luther help at a homeless shelter for a few minutes for the photo opportunity, but are made to come back. In hats.

CLASSIC LINE
"Nine hours, that's going to bleed into Black Friday."
"June, you can have sex with black people any day of the week."

But yeah, otherwise the episode is pretty weak!

Love & Monsters - James hates Halloween and throws a "positivity party" instead. June catches Chloe on a date at the movies. OF COURSE since it's Chloe's she's not actually dating the guy for real. Every Halloween she picks an annoying guy to destroy. The guy directed a chick flick (Chloe hates them) where JVDB falls in love with a giant pink puppet (everyone told him not to do it, but he needed the money.) Chloe can't go through with it in the end but TWIST! The guy is Australian and knows what Chloe was doing! He's been tricking Chloe into living in a chick flick.

I like Chloe meeting a guy who's like her it's a good development. Chloe really does like him and he likes her too OR is this just part of another con? Maybe! But they do like each other! I think! Also the guy who plays him was Frazer in Neighbours and I vaguely remember that character!

June dresses as the a lady Hobbit at the Halloween party and she looks nice. Chloe dresses as a sexy bus driver (which is part of her plan because the guy's mum was a bus driver)! and also looks nice. Mark dresses as a devil and James isn't happy.

There's a weird bit where Eli appears for one line and then you see him standing in the background but he doesn't say anything else. Maybe it's a meta commentary on how he hasn't done anything for ages? But then he appears again later in the episode to explain that June's supposed to get together with the guy's horrible best friend because that's what would happen in the movie. So maybe I was reading into that meta commentary thing!

"Luther, grab the emergency Pikachu costume."

This is a return to form after the previous episode.

Sexy People - June (and her mom) is obsessed with People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive issue. Chloe makes a volcano out of her People Magazines. James is naturally upset that he isn't likely to be named Sexiest Man Alive. Chloe takes over People Magazine to get James named Sexiest Man Alive. Krysten Ritter is ON FIRE in these scenes ("Good question, you're fired!") June becomes attracted to James after just seeing a mock up of him on the cover and we get the return of "Shorty Got The What What" as the "June is turned on" music. Which is great. He gives her blue tubes. James enjoys being sex around Chloe and gets a pet turtle (because George Clooney had a pig once!)

This episode is very silly...and I'm fine with that! They totally commit to the silliness. I once heard Chloe described as a live action version of Roger from American Dad and it's never been more true than in this episode. It's a lot of fun.

This is the episode which gives us "smackwich" and we'll all agree that's a useful thing to have! We also get James on a horse wearing nothing but a shirt. And June in glasses.

Paris - June starts a new job (the one she got in the season one finale, I guess?) and meets a girl there named Fox Paris. She seems nice at first but Chloe tells her she's obviously June's nemesis. Turns out Chloe is right, of course! Then we get the moment where June says "I'm going to kill her" and Chloe looks excited but then June adds "with kindness" and Chloe looks disappointed. It looks good in gifs! June ends up asking Chloe's help but Chloe and Fox make friends! June accidentally stabs Fox.

June's new boss constantly having to assure her he isn't sexually harrassing her is quite funny.

Mark asks JVDB's help writing a goodbye card to June, but really he wants to ask June out. He ends up sitting in his underwear with James and their hands on each other's knees.

This episode's okay. Not one of the best.

Teddy Trouble - Chloe's old friend Teddy from Psychopath Camp comes to visit. He's there to help her get the best deals at a warehouse sale. June wants to go too because she's run out of clothes. Benjamin the Australian comes back and June has to pretend crazy Teddy is her boyfriend for reasons! Chloe and Benjamin continue their mind games and the I continue to think the characters work well together. Benjamin is finally honest with Chloe so she pretends to be having an affair with Teddy. Chloe struggles to beat up the other women at the sale because she's thinking about Benjamin. She goes to see him and they kiss.

James finds out that his Beak Jeans have been discontinued and sent to the warehouse sale. He decides to start his own clothing line.

Krysten Ritter looks good in skirts.

James is still picking pink fur out of his teeth from Love Monster. Eli throws things at Teddy. This episode is pretty good.

Monday June - Chloe is annoyed that June is too busy at work to hang out with her. June's friends come to stay (the ones from the wedding episode. James banged the girl.) Chloe drugs June and she loses a day. It seems everything went well on that missing day but then June thinks she hooked up with Mark because he's on her phone as "the booty" now. And she has to make a big presentation at work but can't remember what she was planning to say! Oops!

June goes nuts and shows her breasts on Good Morning America. Turns out Chloe drugged her because she missed June and Mark and June were just going to write a detective show togethe named "Cutie and The Booty." And possibly have sex.

James goes for a "mind ride" on his stationary motorbike. He thinks he could be the father of June's pregnant friend's baby. There's a nice continuity reference to his mother only eating whole roast chicken!

Chloe says "arigato heyyyy" again! This episode is good.

Dating Games - June and Chloe want to date the same guy (well, June wants to date him, Chloe wants him because June does.) James has an idea for a new dating show he wants to try out and makes June and Chloe take part in it to win a chance to date the guy. This is a great idea for an episode! It has Chloe, James and June all involved in the same plot with James being a crazy gameshow host (sponsored by Diet Pepper) with Luther as his crazy assistant! Robin makes a guest appearance (her only apperance in season two, fact fans!) and is actually pretty funny too! She's got dudes coming out of her ears! Meanwhile Mark still wants to ask June out.

The game (which isn't even real, remember!) gets increasingly insane and there's a "mind fork" involved. James reveals to June that Mark likes her. Then a double mind fork where they steal his great aunt from a nursing home. Chloe eventually does the right thing(!) but June realises she doesn't want to be with the guy anyway and goes to see Mark instead. This episode is PRETTY GREAT because it has a strong plot, lots of funny parts, and great use of all the characters (even Robin, who I wouldn't have minded seeing more if if she was written as well as she is here!) A TOP LEVEL EPISODE.

Chloe brings whisky and an egg to a picnic.

Chloe saying "that thing talks!?" when the great aunt talks made me lol.

The D - It's been one year since June moved to New York and Chloe gives her a "D" in her first annual "living in New York" evaluation. Luther sets her up with James' agent's assistant. This is the one where Chloe tries to reach the fridge for olives but can't and it gets reblobbed on tumblr a lot! June and the guy (Will, played by the guy from Masters of Sex who also played Harvey Dentin Gotham for two episodes of the second season despite being credited for all of them) bond over having to deal with crazy people. TURNS OUT that Will is actually working for Chloe and they're talking about the same crazy person! June tries to get Will and Chloe to get to know each other and it all seems to be going well but then he finds out Chloe got him fired.

This hurts James as he was up for a part in a Woody Allen movie but his agent is actually hopeless without Will. James gets everyone together and it turns out Chloe stole her novel from Luther. Will points out that June doesn't need to live with Chloe anymore but June admits she enjoys living with Chloe because she pushes her to do new things. This episode is pretty good despite the rather dry description I have provided!

The Seven Year Bitch - Chloe and James have veto power over whoever the other one dates. James has been dating the same girl for a month and likes her but Chloe vetoes her right after meeting her. James continues to see the girl in secret. Luther reveals James has dated girls Chloe has vetoed before. Chloe and James end their friends. Luther "shock snaps" Chloe and that's the kind of random funny bit I like! June tries to stay friends with both of them. Chloe gets a job in a phone shop so she can insult people because she misses insulting James.

Meanwhile, Eli is putting on an art show (we see Eli outside his apartment for the first time since season one!) and James is there and he's gotten fat. He's a "quick fat." James and Chloe make up by making fun of June and it's a nice moment because we actually care about their friendship! No one wants to live in a Beekless world. James breaks up with the girl becausse she let him get fat. It's another good episode! They've got this "good episode" thing down!

There's lots of close-ups in this episode? Like, point of view shots a bit like Peep Show but not anywhere near that level? It's a thing worth mentioning!
