In the first MIB movie, K unveiled the media that would replace CD's which looked like Minidiscs. And we all know Minidiscs never gained a place in the market, despite them also showing up in the Last Action Hero, one the best Arnie movies EVER MADE.
Now they obviously didn't take off due to them being made redundant by MP3s, ipods and internet piracy. The MIB were depending on that revenue to fund their secret alien hunting and policing. So they used the legal resources at their command to seemingly sue random people. But of course the honorable protectors of Earth would never stoop as low as to sue the humans they are sworn to protect. The random lawsuits suddenly appear alot less random in this context. They must be aliens and this is one of the many ways the MIB/RIAA track and subdue aliens who are guilty of more than sharing a few Xtina songs, because the MIB are far too busy to deal with piddling small things like that.
