What's gone wrong between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers?

Aaron Rodgers, Packers at crossroads as trade remains possible

An offseason trade of Aaron Rodgers remains an option for the Green Bay Packers for a variety of reasons, league sources told ESPN. A scenario that once seemed unthinkable, a Rodgers trade could be driven by financial reasons, the state of the Packers franchise and ultimately the feelings of the team and the star quarterback. League sources believe the franchise prefers to move on from Rodgers, just as it once did with Brett Favre. Those sources also believe that Rodgers is well aware of the Packers' feelings on the situation. But regardless of Rodgers' decision, changes are coming to Green Bay -- it's just a matter of how extensive they will be. Rodgers himself quipped during the interview: "Is it a reload or a rebuild?" Rodgers tops a list of quarterbacks facing major offseason questions that includes Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson, Derek Carr and Jimmy Garoppolo.

Packers' Aaron Rodgers wins pro-am at Pebble Beach

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers finally gets his name on the Wall of Champions behind the first tee at Pebble Beach, joining a long list that includes Tiger, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. Rodgers and Ben Silverman of Canada held on for a 1-shot victory Sunday in the pro-am portion of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The prize is their name listed on the wall, which features pro-am winners, tournament winners, USGA champions at Pebble and more. They finished at 26-under par, 1 shot ahead of Peter Malnati and Don Colleran, the retired president and CEO of FedEx whose name already is on the wall. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Keith Moore were 4 behind.

Aaron Rodgers to consider future during darkness retreat
Rodgers, 39, said he has not decided if he will play in 2023, whether that's with the Packers or another team, amid reports that he could be traded.

He said last summer that he had taken part in ayahuasca ceremonies that can produce hallucinations similar to the drug dimethyltryptamine (DMT). He said the darkness retreat does not include the use of ayahuasca.

Aaron Rodgers leaves Oregon facility, ends darkness retreat

Aaron Rodgers has emerged from his darkness retreat, according to the owner of the facility in southern Oregon where the Green Bay Packers quarterback spent the past several days and nights. Scott Berman, who owns Sky Cave Retreats, said Rodgers left the dark room and the facility Wednesday. Before entering the retreat, Rodgers said on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Feb. 14 that he had scheduled four days and four nights in darkness isolation and was hoping to "have a better sense of where I'm at in my life." Rodgers said he was not going to the retreat just to figure out whether he will play in 2023 or retire. Rodgers, 39, is under contract with the Packers for $59.465 million guaranteed if he plays in 2023. The four-time NFL MVP has played his entire 18-year NFL career for Green Bay.

Out of darkness, Aaron Rodgers says decision on future coming soon

Aaron Rodgers said he found an inner peace during his four-day darkness retreat last week with whatever his football future holds, but he did not reveal what that decision is -- or even whether he has made one. But the Green Bay Packers quarterback, during a one-hour and 41-minute interview on the "Aubrey Marcus Podcast" released Wednesday, promised it won't take much longer to decide. It appears both Rodgers and the Packers are still considering three options: a return to the Packers, a trade to another team or retirement.

Jets in talks with Packers, Aaron Rodgers, sources say

The New York Jets have had conversations with the Green Bay Packers and with quarterback Aaron Rodgers this week regarding a potent trade of the four-time MVP to the Jets, according to sources. A contingent of Jets team officials, including owner Woody Johnson, general manager Joe Douglas, head coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, flew to California on Tuesday to meet in person with Rodgers, sources said. It's unclear whether the meeting will ultimately result in a trade, however. Rodgers still has not made any announcements about what he intends to do this coming season. It's still possible he decides to retire or to stay in Green Bay. But if he still wants to play and he and the Packers agree it's time for him to play somewhere else, the Jets appear to be a realistic option.

Packers president says Aaron Rodgers' return not top option

It sure sounds like the Green Bay Packers would prefer to move on from Aaron Rodgers and begin the Jordan Love era immediately. While Packers president Mark Murphy did not rule out the possibility that Rodgers could return as the team's starting quarterback, it apparently isn't the organization's first choice based on what Murphy said Friday during an interview at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association girls' basketball tournament, which is taking place across the street from Lambeau Field at the Resch Center arena. The Packers appear ready to turn things over to Love, the 2020 first-round draft pick who spent the past three seasons as Rodgers' backup.

Aaron Rodgers gives Jets wish list of free agents, sources say

If quarterback Aaron Rodgers lands with the New York Jets in a trade, he would like to be surrounded by some of his BFFs. The Green Bay Packers star has supplied the Jets with a wish list of free agents he'd like them to pursue and acquire, and it includes Odell Beckham Jr., sources told ESPN's Dianna Russini. Predictably, the list also has three former Packers teammates: wide receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb and tight end Marcedes Lewis. Rodgers has never played with Beckham, but they're friends, and the quarterback has said in the past that he'd like to team up with him at some point.

Source: Jets reach deal with Rodgers fave Lazard

While continuing to pursue a trade for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets secured one of his longtime wide receivers, Allen Lazsrd. The Jets and Lazard agreed to terms on a four-year, $44 million contract, a source told ESPN, confirming a report by TheScore.com. The two sides still are working through final details of the contract. The agreement should make Rodgers happy, as Lazard was one of the names on a free agent wish list he submitted to the Jets. Although he did not put up massive numbers, Lazard set career highs in catches (60) and receiving yards (788) while adding six touchdowns (the second most of his career).

Aaron Rodgers says he wants to play for Jets in 2023

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers said Wednesday on "The Pat McAfee Show" that he intends to play for the New York Jets this season. Rodgers said he made that decision Friday and is not holding up a trade, which still isn't finalized. The two teams and Rodgers remain in contact, sources said, as they try to work through the final stages of a potential deal, which would include restructuring Rodgers' contract and agreeing on trade compensation.

Rodgers said he will always love the Packers organization but that it's clear it's time for a change. "I f---ing love that city. I love that organization and always going to have love for that organization. The facts are right now they want to move on, and now so do I," he said. He said his decision to leave Green Bay was "bittersweet."

The Jets' Super Bowl odds have been improving steadily over the past week at sportsbooks. On Wednesday, after Rodgers announced his intentions, the Jets were 14-1 to win the Super Bowl at Caesars Sportsbook. At that price, only five teams -- the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals had better odds than the Jets, who entered the offseason at 30-1 to win the Super Bowl. They began the week at 17-1 at Caesars.

Why completing the Aaron Rodgers trade won't be easy for Jets, Packers

Aaron Rodgers wants to leave the Green Bay Packers and play for the New York Jets. The Jets want that, too. The Packers are willing to make a trade happen. So what's the holdup?

Leverage is in the eye of the beholder. The Jets are seemingly boxed into Rodgers because they don't see a viable option on their roster and the quarterback market is depleted. (Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson is available but carries the nonexclusive franchise tag.)

The Packers are boxed in because they appear committed to fourth-year quarterback Jordan Love and would like to move on from Rodgers. President Mark Murphy revealed the team's hand recently, speaking of Rodgers in the past tense: "He had a great career here."

Jets GM: No rush on Aaron Rodgers; Lamar Jackson not an option

Despite dragging trade talks, the New York Jets remain confident that Aaron Rodgers will be their quarterback in 2023, tacitly saying they're so committed to Rodgers that they have no plans to pursue Lamar Jackson as a fallback option. The Jets and Green Bay Packers have engaged in "some productive conversations" in recent weeks, Jets general manager Joe Douglas told reporters Monday at the NFL owners' meetings.

Packers puzzled as talks with QB Rodgers 'never transpired'

If Aaron Rodgers wanted direct conversations with the Green Bay Packers about their direction and his future, then one high-level team executive believes the quarterback should have responded to their attempts to
him this offseason. General manager Brian Gutekunst said Monday at the NFL's annual league meeting that he tried unsuccessfully to reach Rodgers "many times" since their final meeting in January shortly after last season. This after Rodgers said less than two weeks ago on "The Pat McAfee Show" that the Packers were not direct with him about their intentions and how he fit into their plans for the 2023 season.
