what's wrong with a .22 caliber gun?

In Vegas, .22 pistols were only used for one thing: dispute settlement in the clinches. Up close, they're a good way to put an end to sudden confrontations that get too up close and personal, and they're cheap enough to discard without feeling too bad about it. But all the drawbacks are there, including the basic inability to penetrate at a distance or do much permanent damage to somebody across the room.

Even more useless: the .25 caliber, just as weak, obscure bullet type, and jammed up ejection every other round. Like bringing a moped to Sturgis...

Only if you're a very good shot. I've seen them nick a skull without penetrating it because he fired from too far away. Just pissed the guy off and he nearly killed the other one with a pool cue.

Good times...

So, for self defence is it still worth having?

Shot placement is basically the great equalizer in shooting in most cases. However, most folks are a pretty bad shot in times of self defense. .44 Mag will pretty much end it with one shot. A .22 weenie rifle can't do that.
