Basically at this point in my life I need a computer that has an up-to-date browser for the Internet, can download photos from my phone, and run MS Money 2002 (and, ideally the 1998 version of Quickbooks*) I'm contemplating VMWare to run Windows 2000 as a virtual machine. I suppose I could run that on Linux. I just hesitate to slam a brand new, relatively expensive laptop that (kind of) works. I'm not 30 anymore. Hm. The old XP machine got retired after some hard drive issues. Ah, but I'd likely need a working OS on it in order to get the software installed. I miss the days when software came on CDs in boxes. I guess I've got a copy of Windows 2K that I could try to install on the old laptop and if I can't find a browser for it, maybe just air-gap an OS on a flash drive. Bah. I miss being young and tech-savvy. Back in the day we'd laugh at the old fart that would come in and tell about his days of coding FORTRAN and now I'm like "We used to write HTML code for Web pages in Notepad. Somewhere I've got my old Geocities site on a few 3.5" floppy disks."
