Melatonin is a hormone that can be used to aid sleep. Melanocytes do indeed make melanin, but have nothing to do with melatonin.

Jesus Hampster. MELATONIN... the melatonin receptors are in your brain. NOT MELANIN. MELATONIN. L-Tryprophan is one of the amino acids that produces melatonin as it's absorbed. L-Tryptophans richest natural source is turkey, which is why you get sleepy after a big meal like that.
