I mean they all hung around together wearing the exact same colour as thier ranger costume.

It was pretty obvious.
 
For the same reason they never guessed who the Batman or Superman were.
 
What is more worrisome was the United States Government's lack of a response to the whole aliens attacking thing.
 
Batman was the best at keeping his secret identity -- when he wasn't Batman, he just went around acting like Charlie Sheen.

The Zords should have been capable of spaceflight and then they could have just flown to the Moon and nuked Rita Repulsa and her Moonbase.
