Why did we elect Obama, again???

11A - Os?

That may be right. Must be something new.

I've seen pictures of HMMWVs with TOWs but those are all from back in the day.

We've got 19Ks running or TOW variant Strykers.

Yeah, they mounted on hummers back then or sat on tripods. Not my area... my only real AT weaponry experience were dragons.

Uh.... aren't 11 series scouts by definition? Ever BN has a recon section but they're just 11Bs.

No, 11 series is, by definition, infantry... you know... there's infantry and then there's everyone else? The M branch may be phased out, so 11Bs may be used as light recon or something. Beats me.

No, I don't know.

It is. At OSUT there are only 11Bs and Cs. When you first get to 30AG (reception) everyone is an 11X. Then they just start calling out names for the Cs and you pray you don't get called.

Yes we are. I find it hard to understand old ways, but I don't see the nesessity of an 'infantry scout' designator. I mean, we do that already!

Maybe shit's changed but I've heard it's pretty easy.

We may not be Light, but we still run and ruck a fuckton. 10m BN run every quarter 25m ruck ever half.

Well good for you because they're gonna run your dick into the dirt every morning in addition to gonzo 8-count body builder sets, and then follow up with a 5-10 mile forced march with 80lb packs... I say 5-10 depending on the weather. My memories of West Georgia at the time seem to include a lot of rain in that time frame.

Since airborne status is less and less a tactical advantage these days, they may have slacked up some... but you still need to be solid enough to take the hit when you land.

Be advised: IIRC, I had to do five jumps to qual for my tab, but there are always these O-5 and above old pricks out for promotion points and trying to make Master Jumper (25+)... they will bump you off your stick while you're trying to qualify... and some of them will co-opt you into repacking their main in order to save time... but you will get to see at least one carried off the DZ with a leg snapped like a matchstick.

Well, they're putting pussy in combat zones now, so I'm not surprised you don't know.

Wow. The recruiting center always put in branches in your contract when I was in, based on what you wanted. They must be putting shitbags in the mortars these days.

When I went in, we were training for war in central Europe against the Soviets. Battle tactics today were oriented on battalion-sized assault (and up) or static defense. So we needed scouts in hummers to do light recon. These days, your aerial recon is so much better than ours was, that scouts such as we had are redundant, I guess.

I was being sarcastic. As a real soldier (11B) about to be a POG (37F), I know all about the differences between the two!

You get Branch (Infantry) just not Designator (B or C)

Yeah, everything now is based around the BCT. In fact FM 3-21.8 (Replaced 7-8) doesn't even have Battle Drills. :/

Sounds well worth it! :D

Yeah, what I meant was that your MOS and designator was guaranteed at the MEPS when you signed the contract back in my day. Back then, despite having crap computers, they knew pretty much how many gun bunnies, tow gunners, or grunts they needed to sign up at any given time.

OH! I know the one I forgot: 11BC2... M47 dragon gunner. Everyone in the 11 series was familiar with the dragon (how to set one up, fire it, basic specs, etc), but these crazy bastards actually got to shoot one once in a while. :D
