Why do (some) Americans (sometimes) pronounce "Craig" as "Creg"?

Maybe the people who pronounce "Colin" "colon" are the same ones who say "sodom" when they're talking about the former leader of Iraq.
 
These "americans pronounce things differently" threads NEVER go anywhere or end well and I should fucking know better.
