I've only been to the UK once, but on that visit it seemed to me that the Coke tasted slightly sweeter, and flatter.

Since in the US, the rule of thumb for soda is, "generic means sweeter and flatter" I basically imagine generic UK soda to closely resemble karo syrup.

He can just buy the good soda pop and his mom can save her money for the other stuff she buys that everyone feels free to use as much of and as often as they desire without paying for any of it or even thanking her for getting it. Hell, she might even use the money for something for just herself. That would be a novel idea.

I once had some Sprite from Europe, I seemed to remember that it tasted different, it seemed more carbonated and a bit less sweet I think from the american stuff.
