RIP 1970~2018
I'm afraid your pessimism is misplaced, to say the least. The blackout HAS worked. Obama has said he will veto it if it passes, and one by one supporters in Congress are backing off and withdrawing support.

Also something we have now is some very large companies with financial interests that will be hurt by SOPA and PIPA. This is where a lot of the muscle is coming from to fight these horrible bills.
You also seem to misunderstand what the point of the blackout is. People respond to inconvenience. It's one thing to read about what things will happen if these pass, it's quite another thing for the general public to get a small taste as to how it will impact *them*. Large sites blacking out for the day, is enough of an inconvenience to get peoples' attention.
How cute. It's almost endearing to run across a person now and then who has no clue as to the number of steps already planned, foreseen and engineered with better-than military precision.
Or how old the mechanism is when it finally crests the horizon and comes into view of the common man.
Sweet really.
We're calling plays out of a five year old playbook man. They're way way out ahead. Let's talk again after you've read DARPA's mission statement and fully grasped the implications.
