Would you fight for peace?

Would you fight and die for the sense of finality in regards to peace? Against, of course, your fellow humans. It's all about relations between humans, after all.

How far would you go, for ultimate peace?

When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

~Mark Twain

Your definition is slightly screwy, I guess to catch people out. But yes, I would like to think that I would fight and die for a cause that I felt just.

Im no sure anyone can say for sure they would do it though until they are faced with the reality

Most people will even if they think they won't. Once faced with a cause that you believe you have the power to influence and you believe is bigger than the individual (even if that individual is you) then people are capable of amazing acts of heroism and self-sacrifice.

I don't know about fighting for peace, but I'd sure like to give a go at fucking for virginity.

You don't fight for peace. You fight for victory. This may or may not result in peace.

OK. Seriously though, back in the Carter Years it was arguably the lowest point in military recruiting. At that time the Marines had a recruiting poster that said "Marines: Because no one wants to fight, but somebody has to know how to." This slogan has stuck with me forever. War is horrible. It is brutal and [if you're doing it right] totally unfair. But there will always be people out there who need to be killed. And someone has to kill them. :bergman:

Would I fight to live? Yes.

Would I fight to put an end to all wars? That I can not do. There will always be those who will war and those who will war with them.

Would I fight and be willing to die for ultimate peace? That is rather oxymoronic. Unless one believes in a penalized afterlife, death is ultimate peace. Why go out in a non-peaceful manner when one can do so without fighting? Besides, ultimate peace would bore most people to death. Humans need goals or there is no point in getting up in the morning. Goals cause conflict. Wouldn't it be more productive to find an alternative to resolving conflict than to fight it out to the death or the opponent into bloody submission? Of course, that would involve in bringing our goals into alignment so that the goals aren't so violently opposed. But, that just makes it a circular argument in that similar goals equal no conflict which results in death by boredom. So, no, I wouldn't fight and be willing to die for ultimate peace. That would be a death sentence for the rest of humankind.

Translating that to RL is a different story. The ideology is very Gladiator-like, but what if you're faced with a lie to defend in order to enjoy a peace that's already there?
