WrestleMania 26

CaptainWacky

I want to smell dark matter
Is tonight. ON PAPER it looks like a good show, but with ten matches in four hours (and I'm sure there will be some time-wasting backstage and Hall of Fame stuff) will they all get enough time? HAVE I JUST RUINED IT BY SPECULATING.

Anyway...

Shawn Michaels versus The Undertaker - Should go on last and should be great. Yeah they're both almost dead on their feet with injuries and just generally being in their late forties, but it's WrestleMania and they'll deliver! PREDICTION: Undertaker wins.

Bret Hart versus Vince McMahon - Since Bret can't take bumps or shots to the head, logically he should just beat the shit out of Vince for five minutes and put him in the sharpshooter. There's no need for anything else (so of course WATCH FOR A SHOCKING RUN-IN BY GANGREL.) PREDICTION: Bret wins.

Batista versus John Cena - Batista's been doing fine character work lately as a heel. Cena is still pretty annoying. Another match which doesn't have to go long and should be entertaining as long as they don't try to do too much. PREDICTION: Batista cheats to win.

Chris Jericho versus Edge - Edge hasn't looked very good in the ring since his return and the spear sucks. But I'm sure he'll work his hardest and Jericho is always great so should be good. PREDICTION: Edge wins.

Money In The Bank Ladder Match - Ten people in it this year which is too much, really! Drew McIntyre looks set to win even though he's not really ready for it yet. Maybe Christian. PREDICTION: CHRISTIAN.

ShowMiz versus R-Truth and John Morrison - Thrown together tag teams clash! ShowMiz have been good so they should keep the belts. PREDICTION: Miz and big Show win.

Triple H versus Sheamus - HOW THE MIGHT HAVE FALLEN, EH HHH? No one really cares. Keep it short. PREDICTION: Triple H wins.

Randy Orton versus Cody Rhodes versus Ted DiBiase - The build-up has been poor and has killed all interest. Another match I want kept short because it has potential to be boring, QUITE FRANKLY. PREDICTION: Orton wins.

CM Punk versus Rey Mysterio - This should be good. This match should be given more time than CERTAIN OTHERS (watch it last 30 seconds now...I'm obsessed with time.) PREDICTION: Punk wins.

Ten Diva Tag Match: Just recently added to the show apparently. Who could care?

COULD BE A GOOD SHOW

HOLY FUCKING MOON SAULT BATMAN

i won't spoiler anymore than that, but the hbk vs taker match is easily as amazing as you'd expect it to be.

I watched it live. It was a good show.

The tag titles match was ridiculously short. Like three minutes. It was fine while it lasted.

Orton/Rhodes/DiBiase was alright. A bit dull in places. The main problem was that Cody and Ted haven't been made to look on Orton's level at all and he just murdered them both at the end. This feud has not helped them.

Money In The Bank was non-stop action as always. Jack Swagger winning came comletely out of nowhere since he hasn't won anything in a year and he nearly ruined the finish by not just taking another step up the ladder so it would be easier to unhook the case. Hopefully he'll be the first Money In The Bank winner to NOT win a title (unless he improves over the next year.)

HHH/Sheamus was good. Sheamus certainly looked credible against him. HHH still doesn't feel right as a face. Even though he won he at least let Sheamus look good. When Striker said "WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE GAME!?" at the end I thought that meant he'd do a run-in during Shawn/Taker. BUT NO.

Rey/Punk was great WHILE IT LASTED. It should have been given the same amount of time as HHH/Sheamus. It only lasted like six minutes. Some really cool moves though. Not sure what the ponit is if Rey winning as he's now beaten Punk 38 times and there's little reason for the feud to continue.

Bret/Vince...holy shit was far too long. It was comical really the amount of times Bret just hit him with that chair. Everytime he teased the sharpshooter I was hoping he'd just put it on and win, but no, there was another 32 chair shots to go. The "swerve" with the Harts was pointless and seemed to just confused the fans. Natayla looked hot when she slapped Vince though.

Edge/Jericho was good. Edge seems to have lost the ring rust. All the teases of the spear worked (and the bit where Jericho went for it and Edge just kicked him in the face.) The finish felt anti-climatic though as Edge kicked out from the title belt shot and I thought he'd hit a SURPRISE SPEAR for the win, but no, Jericho just hit his finisher again and pinned him. The spear through the barricade looked good.

The Diva match...WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? Vickie Guerrero doing a "frog splash" whre she landed on her feet then just kind of fell on Kelly...then messed up the pin and had to fal on the poor girl another few times. I'll just rank the ten girls involved in terms of attractiveness rather than talk about it.

1) Layla (EASILY)
2) Beth Phoenix
3) Maryse
4) Eve Torres
5) CAN'T REMEMBER ANY MORE OF THEM

Cena/Batista started badly with a few messed up moves, but ended up being really good, hard-hitting stuff. Cena's STF still looks like shit, but it was funny when he was posing with the anti-Cena fans after he won.

Undertaker/Shawn technically wasn't as good as last year as most of the match was just Undertaker punching/shawn kicking the leg and finishing moves. But the drama and emotion made it great. Undertaker had some amazing facial expressions again (CAP THEM MENTY) and the finish was really cool with Undertaker about to show mercy and Shawn slapping him so Taker just kills him with a jumping tombstone.

IT WAS A GOOD WRESTLEMANIA

The feeds I was on only allowed me to watch half of it.

So... how did the rey/punk go down?
And the Brett/Vince?

I REALLY wish they'd stop turning the womens division into gag matches.

Rey won with the 619 and splash after Punk countered it the first few times.

Vince had "paid off" the Hart family to screw Bret but tthey were on Bret's side really (HIS OWN FAMILY WERE ON HIS SIDE, WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THAT COMING) and the "match" was literally just Bret punching him and hitting him with a chair for ten minutes.

Hey! Natalya now has boobs!

She always did!

I haven't followed Wrestling for a long while so I don't know much about current heat and storylines.

Orton/Rhodes/DiBiase: Orton demolished the pair of them in what proved to be a rather underwhelming affair. Orton being first on the card was a bit weird as well. A competent match from all involved but DiBiase and Rhodes deserve better than being buried by Orton. At least they made sure to keep Orton looking highly dangerous and sadistic. I like his predatory style. He's a good heel.

Money In The Bank:

Always a good spectacle. Lots of crazy bumps as we all expect and it was entertaining from start to finish without really bringing anything that special to the match. This has become a staple at WrestleMania and despite the organized mayhem of it all it weirdly still came across as a paint by numbers affair. BUT IT WAS STILL GOOD. Christian should have won.

HHH/Sheamus:

Seeing as I have not followed WWE in any serious way since the end of WMXXV I had no fucking clue who Sheamus even was. The promo for the match was really good though and told the story well and I thought the whole thing came across in a rather credible storytelling way. The guys who edit the promo's for WWE always do outstanding work. The match itself surprised me and was actually really decent. Sheamus is clearly a good wrestler and has also got a personality and I thought both he and HHH put on a well executed match. A highlight!

Rey/Punk:

Booyakka, Booyakka..SIX ONE NINE! LOL, they've made Punk's abstinence from drink and drugs in to a heel turn. You have to laugh. Don't do drugs! BOOOO!

Two top class performers putting on a top class match. I love how Rey is so good at stringing together quality combo finishers. As Wacky said this one was too short especially considering what was coming next......

Bret/Vince:

Ugh. This was horrible. They have TOTALLY dropped the ball on Bret's return. I have followed the whole Bret coming back to WWE a bit because Bret is one of my all time favourite wrestlers. It's a real shame to see how pathetic this was. Everything about it was wrong. The double cross was nothing but confusing. I mean, Vince comes out with the Hart family who have DOUBLE CROSSED BRET OMG THE HUUUMANITY! but don't worry because within ten seconds we learn that it was Bret who screwed Vince! The whole Bret screwed Bret, Vince screwed Vince, Vince screwed Bret, Bret screwed Vince thing has become a parody. Bret and Vince screwed the fans on this one.

Beating down on Vince can be done well. Armageddon comes to mind when Stone Cold annihilated Vicne and hit him in the head with a mounted gun. This was just weak though. Vince can't take crazy bumps any more and Bret can't even take a shot to the head or he could die. EVEN SO there were ways of making this better than it was. The most surreal moment was when Vince was outside of the ring holding a crowbar surrounded by 10 members of the Hart family calling him a coward! Wat? He's in his mid sixties and surrounded by a mob and he's the coward? None of it made sense. Again, as Wacky said this was worth five minutes and it dragged on and on. Awful.

Edge/Jericho:

Disappointing. I mean, yes, it was "good" but when you have these two workers going at it you expect so much more. The spear at the end was OK but it was too obvious at how much protective padding was laid down everywhere and kind of ruined the "holy shit" moment. The whole thing seemed to be lacking the Title Match feel as well.

The Diva match: I watched them come out so I could see some boobies and then skipped it.

Cena/Batista: I liked the synchronised gun swinging stuff at the start from the Marines but it still felt a bit low-key compared to previous years. The match itself was quite good and I enjoyed it. From someone who hasn't watch wrestling in a while the storyline seemed more than a bit contrived and just a reason for these two to have a go at each other but it was good and they both played to their "strengths" well. I used to dislike Cena but started liking him as soon as so many fans got stuck up and started hating on him because he wasn't the most technically gifted wrestler in the world.

Undertaker/Shawn: Umm...Shawn and Mark are fucking freaks. It goes against EVERY piece of common sense that these two are as good as they are still considering their age and their injury ravaged bodies. This match lifted the ENTIRE event from mediocrity and was a classic in its own right. Everything from storytelling to the high spots and wrestling were top notch. OK, so they went the finisher/kick-out route for half the match but it didn't matter because the whole thing worked. The jumping tombstone was sick and the moonsault off the turnbuckle was class. This being Shawn's supposed retirement added a lot to the whole thing as well. I have a feeling this one went long because we didn't get the usual music video highlights at the end of WM. (Thanks Vince and Bret!)

All in all it was a good show but not great. I don't know what it was but the whole evening felt a little flat to me. J.R not being there was definitely a shame because I think he would of added a lot more to The Undertaker/Shawn match and probably could have helped the train wreck of Bret and Vince as well. Why wasn't he there?

BUT IT WAS GOOD.

You missed the tag title match (or you just forgot it since it was only three minutes long.)

Not sure why JR wasn't there. He had another Bell's Palsy attack a few months ago and hasn't been on tv, but there were reports he'd be back for WM and he signed a contract extension recently. And he was actually there in the building watching as a fan! Blame Vince.

YOU KNOW, if Jack Swagger was smart he would have cashed in the money in the bank on Jericho after Edge speared him through the barricade.

I'm glad Undertaker didn't do his crazy dive this year (he teased it but Shawn took out his leg first) because he would literally have died.

ANYWAY GOOD REVIEW.

The only thing that interests me on the card is the 'Taker / HBK match, which sounded a corker.

It was the best match on the card by far but everyone before them were competent but nobody really upped it to another level until the Shawn/Undertaker match which was expected since they live on another level.

swagger using the mitb on raw then taking it back was LOL!

i now cut wwe some slack for giving the ladies only a few minutes each raw, i mean they botch the hell out of those two minutes anyway, so why bother.

jack swagger was great, the way he was struggling with the hook i thought soomeone was going to tackle the ladder down.

All he had to do was climb up one more rung to make it easier.

Smackdown spoiler...

Edge destroyed Jericho again and this time Swagger cashed in the Money In The Bank and won the world title. Which sounds like a really stupid idea to me.
