Vince McMahon’s $12M ‘Hush Money’ Payments Could Mean Bigger Roles for Triple H and Stephanie McMahon

WWE CEO Vince McMahon is under fire as more reports surface of the billionaire paying women “hush money” for “nondisclosure agreements to keep secret allegations of sexual misconduct and infidelity.” These allegations could finally mean the end of McMahon’s run with the family business he’s been with since 1969. And bigger roles for his daughter, Stephanie McMahon, son-in-law Triple H, and the company’s new rainmaker, Nick Khan, may follow. Vince has been married to Linda McMahon (née Edwards) since 1966. The initial WSJ report on June 15 described a consensual affair with a WWE paralegal and a $3 million payout for her silence about the relationship when she left the company. The allegations in the July 8 article, however, are much more salacious and damning. The story reports that McMahon made a “$7.5 million pact with a former wrestler who alleged that Mr. McMahon coerced her into giving him oral sex and then demoted her and, ultimately, declined to renew her contract in 2005 after she resisted further sexual encounters, according to people familiar with the matter.”

WWE's Vince McMahon announces full retirement amid misconduct investigations

After spending the last four decades as both the most consistent public face of WWE wrestling, and one of its primary behind-the-scenes architects, Vince McMahon has announced that he’s fully retiring from the company this week. Per Variey, news of the retirement comes not long after McMahon vacated his position as chairman of the company, amid investigations into wide-ranging allegations that he paid millions of dollars to women in order to hide alleged sexual misconduct. He’d previously stayed on in a creative role at WWE, but is now departing in full. The allegations against McMahon (and also into John Laurinaitis, former wrestler and head of talent relations) are currently being investigated by the WWE board. They apparently amount to something on the order of $12 million handed out to women over many years, tied to NDAs that are reportedly connected to sexual relationships with employees, sexual harassment, and other sexual misconduct. These allegations appear to be separate from one levied against McMahon in 1996 by former WWE referee Rita Chatterton, who said that McMahon sexually assaulted her in 1986.

Some will be big. Some will be small. Some will take form on TV. Some won’t. At the end of the day, though, changes are coming.
With NXT, Levesque ushered in a new era of WWE, and his work in doing so can still be felt on Raw and SmackDown each week. WWE stars such as Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Asuka, Bayley, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Bianca Belair, The Street Profits, Riddle, Theory and more all started in NXT due to "The Game." Levesque’s booking also helped NXT TakeOver events sometimes become the most-talked about shows during pay-per-view weekends, even against main roster events, and he has a deep respect for the business as a whole.

Following Vince McMahon is retirement announcement last week, the WWE will revise financial statements dating back to 2019. Linda McMahon Dodges Questions About Vince Retirement And Allegations

Throughout the whole process that saw Vince McMahon come under investigation for payoffs made in relation to covering up alleged scandals, and may have contributed to his recent resignation, one person who remained silent was his wife, Linda McMahon. Now, however, McMahon has finally broken her silence on the matter — at least, from a certain point of view. At an event for the America First Policy Institute, McMahon was asked directly by a reporter about the allegations facing her husband, and his retirement from WWE. The video has since been captured and was posted on Twitter. “I’m not going to talk about Vince and WWE,” McMahon said. “I’m here to talk about AFPI. ”When the reported pressed McMahon, she gave a short answer about how Vince will handle retirement.“Well, you know what? He’ll just be deciding on how he’s going to be spending his free time,” McMahon said. “I think that’s a good thing.”

Vince McMahon, for good or bad, changed pro wrestling: Examining his legacy

Vince McMahon grew up in a trailer park in North Carolina. His genius for marketing got him out of the trailer park and into the penthouse, and though he always seemed a bit ashamed of how he got there, it all plays together to explain how he got to where he did. McMahon, famously, had his on-air talent avoid the words “professional wrestling,” in favor of “sports entertainment,” because “sports entertainment” doesn’t evoke the images of the early 20th century carnies who turned worked athletic wrestling competitions into a thriving business enterprise.Whatever he wants to call it, it’s wrestling, and no matter how desperate McMahon was to get out of the trailer park, the key to understanding the Vince McMahon who turned his father’s Northeast wrestling promotion into a multibillion-dollar entertainment conglomerate is understanding trailer park Vinnie.

Lex Luger, The New Age Outlaws and Nia Jax Comment on Vince McMahon's WWE Departure

Vince McMahon's WWE retirement announcement on July 22 sent shockwaves throughout the pro wrestling industry, and in the weeks since then many current and former stars have commented on his departure after running WWE for roughly 40 years. Lex Luger, WWE Hall of Famers Road Dogg, Billy Gunn and former Raw Women's Champion Nia Jax (Lina Fanene) all spoke with ComicBook during the Starrcast V event this past weekend in Nashville and offered their reactions to the news. Starting off with Lex Luger, a former Royal Rumble winner and someone who McMahon once considered the future top star in the WWF after Hulk Hogan. He said, "I think that there's a lot of really good people in place in the company. Triple H and Stephanie (McMahon), the baton is being passed. I think he will still, behind the scenes I'm sure, since that's his daughter and Triple H his son-in-law, I'm sure he (Vince) will still have some influence and some input as well."

Triple H wasted no time cleaning up Vince McMahon's huge mess
Omos hasn’t been featured on Raw ever since Vince McMahon resigned and Triple H took over creative. The big man did beat Ezekiel on Main Event this week, for what it’s worth. It’s easy to assume Triple H doesn’t know what to do with this guy, given he’s the worst worker on the roster. At the very least, Omos appears to be lost in the shuffle right now.

FORMER WWE OFFICIAL QUESTIONS WHETHER VINCE MCMAHON IS ACTUALLY RETIRED

The news of Vince McMahon's retirement came after it was reported that there were investigations into millions of dollars in hush money payments made by Vince to female employees. The payments were reportedly made in order to silence the women from making accusations about harassment, abuse, and misconduct against Vince McMahon and former Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis. Some have suggested that the former Chairman would still be running the WWE from behind the scenes, but according to several sources, that isn't the case. Although the on-screen WWE product seems to be changing, one person who still believes Vince has a say in what's going on is former WWE referee Mike Chioda.
