Never heard bummed used in that context before either. To me, bummed means sad or depressed, disappointed, unhappy. Now, when someone says to me, "I'm bummed out," I'll wonder if they've been raped by a bald guy at the bottom of somebody's garden.
I remember Rod Stewart on "The View" when I captioned that show, and he said he smoked fags and everyone gasped BUT I FUCKING WROTE FAGS BECAUSE I KNEW HE MEANT CIGGYS
