I know of its existence. I don't read comic strips really. Andy Capp seems to be popular with americans based on you liking it and Homer Simpson (back when The Simpsons was still good obviously) once remarking "oh Andy Capp, you wife-beating drunkard." AND NO OTHER EVIDENCE.
I was given a bunch of paperback collections of Andy Capp cartoons along with a bunch of other books when I was a kid, a hand-me-down from kids of a friend of my dad's. I guess I'm unique in that sense, although the comic strip has always run in most newspapers here. Of course, no one reads newspapers anymore, and comics take more effort to find online...
IT'S OKAY THOUGH, BECAUSE I'M THE ONLY PERSON WOT WACKY DON'T HATE INNIT.
Seeing more recent ones, I can definitely say that Andy Capp hasn't been worth the trouble since Reg Smythe died in 1998 (and maybe for a while before that too).
No, from what I saw they're just not as funny. They've run out of fresh jokes to convey that he's lazy, he's a skirt-chaser, he's a drunk, he's a freeloader, etc.
Or maybe people don't find that kind of guy funny anymore. I BLAME THE WORLD.
