No.4: QB Jordan Travis, Florida State
Travis threw for "only" 289 yards and two TDs, but that second scoring pass was a thing of eephus ball beauty and also happened to win the game in overtime. Oh, and he also ran for a score.

North Carolina WR Tez Walker denied appeal, ineligible for '23

Walker and North Carolina have spent months appealing the NCAA's initial decision to reject his waiver to play in 2023 as a two-time transfer on multiple grounds: mental health challenges he has experienced, leading to his decision to transfer closer to home; and that he never played at his first school, NC Central, because its season was canceled as a result of the pandemic. His two previous schools, NC Central and Kent State, filed waivers in support of Walker playing this year. His final effort at getting eligibility went before a committee of NCAA Division I representatives Thursday.

North Carolina trustees mull options after Tez Walker denial

The North Carolina board of trustees held an emergency meeting Monday to discuss possible legal options to help wide receiver Tez Walker n his quest to play this season. The closed session was held four days after the NCAA denied Walker's last appeal for eligibility in 2023. Although the official agenda did not mention Walker by name, Tar heels coach Mack Brown told reporters at his weekly news conference that the meeting was called "to try to figure out all the best options" for Walker. "We need to all get in the same room and figure out what's best for the young man," Brown said. "These people are concerned and want to help him. I'm proud of that." On Jan. 11, two days after Walker began classes at North Carolina, the NCAA announced it would be cracking down on waivers for two-time transfers.

Tez Walker allowed to play after NCAA reverse decision on WR
Walker is a transfer from Kent State, and his initial eligibility for the 2023 season was denied because he had transferred twice. His case became a flashpoint for NCAA rules, in part because Walker hadn't played during the COVID-19 season of 2020 at North Carolina Central, which did not have a season because of the pandemic.

Tez Walker 'blessed' after 6 catches in North Carolina debut
North Carolina receiver Tex Walker made his long anticipated return to the field Saturday, catching six passes in a 40-7 win over visiting Syracuse. The saga between North Carolina and the NCAA lasted two months, as the Tar Heels put public pressure on the national governing organization to allow Walker to play this year.

******
The NCAA granted Walker immediate eligibility on Thursday, reversing course after initially ruling he would have to sit out this season as a two-time transfer. North Carolina determined that Walker would play but not start because he had spent the previous three weeks working with the scout team.

NEW AGE POSTING

Inside Tez Walker's long NCAA fight for eligibility

Just before heading into the locker room to prepare for kickoff against Miami on Saturday, North Carolina receiver Tez Walker came to the sideline to give his high school coach a hug. Josh Harris has been a father figure to Walker for nearly a decade. They still talk every day. As Walker prepared for his first game fully incorporated in the North Carolina offense, Harris peppered him with questions about how it was going and what he thought of the Miami cornerbacks he would face. When Walker transferred from Kent State to North Carolina in December, he envisioned games just like this one. But then the NCAA declared him ineligible this season because he was a two-time transfer. Walker had no idea it would take a seven-month fight with the NCAA -- one that included a public pressure campaign, legal intervention and half a football season -- to play in a game for the first time. When Walker began classes at North Carolina on Jan. 9, he expected some challenges from the NCAA in getting his waiver to play in 2023 granted because he was a two-time transfer, but the NCAA had previously granted them in other cases. He and North Carolina believed he qualified for multiple reasons, because mental health was his reason for transferring and because he never played at NC Central, with the pandemic having canceled the season.
