Ukraine tries to contain Russian forces along several fronts
Ukrainian defenders battled on Saturday to contain Russian forces along several fronts, officials said, as the United States urged China to align itself with the West in opposing the invasion following an ill-tempered G20 meeting. A missile strike on the northeastern city of Kharkiv wounded three civilians, its governor said, though Russia's main attacks appeared focused southeast of there in Luhansk and Donetsk. Those two provinces, parts of which were held by pro-Russian separatists before the conflict began in February, comprise the eastern industrial region of the Donbas. Russian rocket attack kills 15 in Ukraine; others trapped
Ukrainian officials say at least 15 people were killed when a Russian rocket hit three apartment buildings in the eastern town of Chasiv Yar.
Dozens of Ukrainian emergency workers labored Sunday to pull people out of the rubble after a Russian rocket attack smashed into apartment buildings in eastern Ukraine. The strike killed at least 15 people and scores were thought to be still trapped a day later. The strike late Saturday evening destroyed three buildings in a residential quarter of the town of Chasiv Yar, inhabited mostly by people who work in nearby factories. Ukraine’s Emergency Services said Sunday they have rescued five people from the rubble so far and have made contact with three others still trapped alive beneath the ruins. Another man was pulled alive from the rubble Sunday night. Cranes and excavators worked alongside the rescue teams to clear away the ruins of one building, its sides completely shorn off by the impact of the strike. The rescuers kept on working in the rain despite the dangerous conditions. The thud of artillery on the nearby front line resonated just a few miles away, making some workers flinch and others run for cover when it got too close.

One soldier even has a helmet (he also seems to be the only one to have a flak vest) and the rest just have small arms without an RPG or anything in sight. Not even a crew served. They might make very mildly effective at defense against infantry but that is about it. They certainly are not an offensive force.

The European Space Agency cuts ties with Russia on its Mars mission.
The European Space Agency is formally ending its partnership with Russia on a rover mission to explore the surface of Mars, the agency’s chief said on Tuesday, citing Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. ESA, an intergovernmental organization with 22 member nations, paused cooperation with Roscosmos, Russia’s state space agency, in March to comply with Western sanctions, after ESA’s leadership council agreed unanimously on the “impossibility” of continuing to work together under the circumstances. As an intergovernmental organization whose mandate was to develop and implement space programs “in full respect with European values,” the agency said in a news release at the time, “we deeply deplore the human casualties and tragic consequences of the aggression towards Ukraine.”

Video Shows Ukraine Blowing Up 3 Russian Tanks in Series of Strikes
Aseries of strikes by Ukraine took out three of Russia's T-72 tanks, a radar station and other equipment, the Territorial Defense Forces (TDF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said Wednesday. The TDF shared a video on Twitter that first pinpointed the various targets of the strikes from above. The video briefly circles each spot in red, but most of the equipment appears to be concealed among trees and other foliage.

US Accuses Russia of Forcibly Deporting Ukrainians
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has accused Russia of forcibly deporting hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians from areas it controls in the east and south of the country to Russia. Blinken said an estimated 900,000 to 1.6 million Ukrainian citizens, including 260,000 children, have been interrogated, detained, and deported from their homes to Russia, including to isolated areas in the Far East, through filtration operations. In a statement on July 13, Blinken called on Russia to stop these operations, which he said violate the Geneva Conventions.
