The Event

Fuddlemiff

Is this real life?
"You ain't gettin' by me!" shouts a roid ragey man as he chases a passenger jet down a runway in a 4x4. Turns out he's wrong.

Thus sets the tone for The Event. A bit cheesy, a bit "why the fuck is this happening anyway?", but still somehow watchable. We should probably have a thread about it.

I found all the "X months previously" titles kind of confusing. They sprang up so frequently and at the same time as introducing a myriad of characters that it wasn't until the last ten minutes or so that I got a good idea of the timeline.

Cast isn't bad. I hope Tony Todd gets lots to do. President Obamartinez is the bloke from Seven Days who used to help save the president from having planes crash on him every week. He's rising up the ranks of disaster genre casting. Botox woman looks really familiar, but her immalleable cheeks distract me from all the dialogue in her scenes. Main guy... I forget his name... he's ok. Looks a bit like Sam Trammell crossed with that SeaQuest guy who killed himself crossed with a white picket fence attached to some gums.

The ones who saved the president... Asgard? Tune in next week to not find out!

LOL, I still have "The Event", Hawaii Five-Oh, and two episodes of NCIS: LA to watch, along with Boardwalk Empire, and the season finale of True Blood. Thursday there's no baseball, so I'm-a be catchin' up like a motherfucker.

Glad to hear you see potential in The Event.

There's not much on British telly at the moment, so I've got time spare to watch trashy American mystery shows with unsatisfactory conclusions as well. :)

Oh I'm wrong about President Disaster Genre; he didn't save the president in Seven Days, he saved the president in Deep Impact.

And it has Danko from Heroes, so everyone has to watch it.

Is it like Lost where it has a complicated plot that will probably not hold together but at least the characters are compelling and well-acted and you care what happens to them or is it like Heroes or Flashforward where the plot is shit and the character are cardboard cut-outs?

Well, with only the pilot to go on, I'd say the characters are already much better than Flashforward. We'll have to wait and see if the plot and the mysterious stuff are going to be interesting.

Is Dominic Monaghan in it for some reason?

NOT YET!

I am watching DS9 for the first time it has taken up 53% of my hard drive and I have watched about 5 episodes all good SPOON HEADS

And the first 5 episodes aren't even that good!

I watched the first episode last night. It was mediocre at best. Plus, it seems obvious that the prisoners are aliens (or from another dimension), and "The Event" just refers to some kind of invasion or dimensional shift. I guess I'll keep watching, but so far there are NO characters that seem even remotely interesting.

THEY ARE ALIENS!

Is it still shit?

Why don't we ever invade ourselves? Like a future us who come back to warn us of things.

I think it's pretty good. They're still setting up the characters, and STUFF, but they're not going to make everything a huge secret that takes forever to get answers.

THEY ARE ALIENS!

Haven't watched this week's episode, is that for real? I don't care about spoilers, you can tell me. If so, I TOLD YOU SO, BITCHES!!!

YES, that is for realz. I knew there would be a science fiction element to the show, but I thought it would be more sciencey technology. I'm glad for ALIENS.

The Asian roid ragey dude is a porno actor, says IMDb.

Is it still shit?

Looks like it's gonna be on C4 pretty soon. Might download this week's and then wait til it comes on tv to watch the rest.

As soon as they showed the TOP-SECRET prison in a remote area of Alaska, I knew it'd be aliens. I've read enough comic books to know that a TOP-SECRET prison completely outside civilization would be housing aliens.

Yeah, I should have thought that too, BUT since the president is like Obama, I thought the prison would be like Guantanamo.

LOL INSERT ETHNIC JOKE HERE.
