Seahawks consider drafting QB amid 'positive' Geno Smith talks​

The Seattle Seahawks are working to re-sign Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith, but general manager John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll said that isn't stopping the team from taking a hard look at this year's quarterback class. The Seahawks haven't picked in the top five since they drafted linebacker Aaron Curry with the No. 4 selection in 2009, the year before Carroll and Schneider arrived. They've made the playoffs 10 times in 13 seasons since, which has meant routinely drafting later in the first round.

Florida's Anthony Richardson sets QB mark for vertical, broad jump
At 6-foot-4, 244 pounds, Richardson set combine records for a quarterback with a vertical jump of 40.5 inches and a broad jump of 10 feet, 9 inches. Richardson, in his only attempt, then uncorked an official clocking of 4.43 seconds in the 40-yard dash in Lucas Oil Field.

After a review, the NFL determined that the Texans provided Watson compensation in the form of a membership at an alternative athletic facility in 2020, early in the COVID-19 pandemic.


49ers lead way with seven compensatory draft picks
After the league unveiled those 37 additional choices Thursday afternoon, the Niners now have a whopping 11. San Francisco's seven compensatory selections include three extra third-round picks (Nos. 99, 101 and 102) as part of the league's initiative for organizations developing minority candidates to fill the head coach or general manager jobs with a new hiring team.±

Bears trading No. 1 overall pick to Panthers for haul that includes WR DJ Moore, sources say​

The Chicago Bears are trading the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for four draft picks and wide receiver DJ Moore, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Bears will receive Carolina's first-round selection at No. 9, the 61st pick (late second round), a 2024 first-round selection and a 2025 second-round pick, according to Schefter.

This will be the third time the Panthers have had the top pick. They had it in their first-ever season, 1995, but traded it to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for the No. 5 pick and No. 36 in the second round. They selected quarterback Kerry Collins at No. 5. They also had the top pick in 2011 and selected Auburn's Cam Newton, who went on to win the 2015 MVP and lead Carolina to the Super Bowl.

Carolina has been looking for a franchise quarterback since Newton developed shoulder issues midway through the 2015 season. It moved on from Newton prior to the 2020 season and went with Teddy Bridgewater. The Panthers traded for Sam Darnold, the third pick of the 2018 draft, in 2021. They traded for Baker Mayfield, the top pick of the 2018 draft, prior to last season.
