Projected No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher to enter NBA draft

Zaccharie Risacher, the projected No. 1 pick, has submitted paperwork to the league office making him eligible for the 2024 NBA draft, he told ESPN on Monday. Risacher, 19, is in the midst of a productive season in France, as his JL Bourg team is in third place in Pro A and reached the EuroCup Finals. He is averaging 10.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in 23 minutes per game, shooting 39% for 3. Since August, Risacher has played in over 60 games across several competitions, more than any other player in this draft class, with possibly two more months still in store as the French playoffs kick off in mid-May. The son of former Olympian and EuroLeague player Stephane Risacher, Zaccharie was identified as possibly the top international prospect in his age group from an early stage. He represented France at the FIBA level at the under-16, U17 and U19 levels and made his senior national team debut this past February at the age of 18.

NBA breaks six ties among 15 teams for June draft

The NBA broke six ties among 15 teams Monday to determine the order of selection for the 2024 NBA Draft, which will be held June 26 and 27. The Charlotte Hornets won a tiebreaker with the Portland Trail Blazers after both teams finished 21-61, tentatively slotting them third and fourth respectively in the NBA Draft order. Charlotte has a 13.3% chance of winning the draft lottery, while Portland is now at 13.2%. The Sacramento Kings won a tiebreaker over the Golden State Warriors and will have the No. 13 pick if it does not move up in the draft lottery. The Warriors receive the No. 14 pick -- the last selection in the lottery and their pick will be conveyed to the Portland Trail Blazers unless the Warriors move into the top four, of which they have just a 3.4% chance.

Colorado's Cody Williams, expected lottery pick, to enter NBA draft

Colorado freshman guard cody Williams an expected lottery pick -- is entering the 2024 NBA draft, he told ESPN on Monday. Williams -- No. 10 in ESPN's list of Top 100 prospects -- is one of the class's best defenders and brought an elite level of intensity guarding the best scorer that Colorado faced on most nights. His 6-foot-8 frame and 7-foot-1 wingspan was especially problematic for smaller guards. Williams averaged 11.9 points, three rebounds and 1.9 assists on 55.2% shooting in 24 games for the Buffaloes. Williams has strong basketball instincts and is a late bloomer on a similar developmental trajectory as his brother Jalen -- who didn't emerge as a serious NBA prospect until his third season in college. Williams emerged as an early No. 1 pick candidate, debuting at No. 2 in ESPN's first 2024 mock draft in February of 2023, but was unable to display the best version of himself due to a series of minor injuries last season.

Player of year Zach Edey officially enters NBA draft

Zach Edey, the consensus national player of the year and a projected lottery pick, has submitted paperwork to the league office making him eligible for the 2024 NBA draft, he told ESPN. A 7-foot-4 center from Canada, Edey is the No. 14 prospect in ESPN's draft projections. He's one of the most decorated players in college basketball history, the first to win unanimous National Player of the Year honors since Bill Walton in 1973. He led the nation in scoring at 24.9 points per game, and finished third in rebounding at 12.2. Edey holds the all-time Purdue record by scoring more than 2,500 points and pulling down more than 1,300 rebounds, something that hasn't been done in college basketball since Lionel Simmons more than 30 years ago. He led No. 1 seed Purdue to the national championship game, where he posted 37 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to UConn. Edey entered the 2023 NBA draft but elected to return to Purdue for his senior season. That move appeared to pay off in a major way as he's now a projected top-20 pick who can be selective with how he positions himself in the pre-draft process.

2024 NBA Draft Lottery picks swap guide: Why these five lottery picks could change hands on Sunday

The NBA Draft has never been more complicated for a variety of reasons. On lottery night, the biggest reason is the league's new trade-friendly approach to roster management. Teams hand out first-round picks like candy nowadays. When I ranked every outstanding first-round pick that has been traded last offseason, 56 of a total of 210 tradable picks were owed to a team besides their original owner. In other words, if that trend holds, at any given time roughly one-quarter of all first-round picks should be expected to have changed hands in the modern NBA.

This creates quite a bit of confusion because every single one of those picks comes with different strings attached. Some of them are protected and some of them aren't. Some of them must convey right away and others could take years to finally pay off. In the case of one specific pick, the acquiring team had the chance to defer it for a year or take it right away. That pick belongs to the Los Angeles Lakers this season, as the Pelicans are expected to defer the final piece of the Anthony Davis trade to next year.

bronny James comes clean about NBA draft decision with four words
A video of Bronny playing Call of Cuty with Twitch icon xQc was posted to X earlier this week. In the video, someone asks Bronny whether he's going to get drafted. “I don’t know yet,” Bronny said. A streamer then asserted that Bronny had a smirk on his face, and asked what that smile means. "I don't know yet," Bronny reiterated.

Former USC Bronny James must make a life-changing decision in the next couple of days. An aspect of the NBA's new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is that every player who is invited to the NBA Draft Combine is required to participate. If they don't, they aren't allowed to enter the 2024 NBA Draft.

2024 NBA Draft Combine: Players with most at stake, what to expect from Bronny James and more storylines

The 2024 NBA Draft Combine will tip off Sunday for the 78 players who earned invites to this year's event and a select few players from the G League Elite Camp, held Friday through Sunday. New to this year 's combine is the participation expected from each prospect. This is the first time under the newly-ratified Collective Bargaining Agreement that requires participation in the combine for draft eligibility. In previous years, top prospects frequently sat in competition and didn't participate in measurements and kept important medical information close to the vest. But prospects and agents no longer will have as much power in the predraft process with respect to their participation in important events. The goal of the NBA is for there to be as much transparency as possible for teams to make decisions. The outcome for prospects may be that we see less agent meddling or steering prospects to or away from destinations. We'll see.

Atlanta Hawks best improbable odds to win NBA's draft lottery

The Atlanta Hawks rocketed up the board to grab the No. 1 pick in this year's NBA draft, winning the lottery for the first time in franchise history. The Hawks, 36-46 this season for a 10th place finish in the Eastern Conference, had just a 3% chance to win the lottery, the fifth-lowest odds by a team to win the No. 1 pick since the lottery began in 1985. The Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs rounded out the top four. The Detroit Pistons, owners of the league's worst record this year, fell to No. 5. The Rockets, 41-41 this season, moved up six spots to get into the top three. The draft is June 26-27 in Brooklyn.

Atlanta has some big decisions to make this offseason, including whether to break up its backcourt of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray. Now Fields will have to decide how to utilize the No.1 overall pick. French big man Alex Sarr is projected to go No. 1 to Atlanta in ESPN latest mock draft, however it's far from a certainty as this year's class has been defined thus far by its lack of a consensus No. 1 pick. Fellow French prospect Zaccharie Risacher as well as Kentucky's Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham are also expected to be off the board within the first few selections. This year marks the sixth straight season where the team with the worst record did not select first overall -- coinciding with the new lottery format, which began in 2019.

LeBron James shows up to watch Bronny at NBA draft combine

Bronny James' famous father was on hand Wednesday to watch him play at the NBA draft combine. LeBron James showed up wearing a black hoodie and sat in the second row for Bronny's second and final scrimmage of the combine. The NBA's career scoring leader, his wife and daughter were frequent spectators for Bronny's games at Southern California last season. LeBron has said repeatedly he would like to team with his son. The four-time MVP and four-time NBA champion just completed his 21st season and could become a free agent if he opts out of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. But he also said following a season-ending loss to Denver that he hasn't "given much thought lately" to playing alongside his son.
