Tennessee, NC State end top 10 drought in AP college football poll
Georgia remained No. 1 and received 55 of 63 first-place votes in the Top 25. No. 2 Alabama (four first-place votes), No. 3 Ohio State (four first-place votes), No. 4 Michigan and No. 5 Clemson all held their places.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fire athletic director Todd Stansbury, football coach Geoff Collins
Georgia Tech fired athletic director Todd Stansbury and head football coach Geoff Collins on Monday. Collins was in his fourth season as coach. The Yellow Jackets have lost nine straight games to FBS opponents dating to last season and are coming off a 27-10 loss to UCF. Brent Key was named the interim coach for the Yellow Jackets, while Frank Neville, who is the school's chief of staff and senior vice president for strategic initiatives, was named the interim AD. Collins was 10-28 as Georgia Tech's coach after arriving from Temple. Stansbury had been Georgia Tech's athletic director since 2016. Stansbury hired Collins and made the decision to bring him back last year after a 3-9 season. Collins has three years left on his initial contract. He was making approximately $3.3 million this year.
ACC commish: 'Really unified' in push for CFP expansion in '24
ACC commissioner Jim Phillips told ESPN on Wednesday that "there's a lot of push" to expand the College Football Playoff in 2024. The CFP's board of managers voted in early September to expand the playoff to 12 teams in 2026, but the 10 FBS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick have been working toward expansion two years sooner. ACC coaches were split on whether to expand the NCAA tournaments. Miami's JiLarranaga and Syracuse's Jim Boeheim were in favor, with each having his own preferred format. Larranaga would like to see all 32 conference champions receive byes, while 64 at-large teams play in the first round.
LSU, South Carolina join AP Top 25, as top six hold steady
LSU reentered The Associated Press college football poll at No. 18 on Sunday, and No. 25 South Carolina earned a ranking for the first time in four seasons. The first six teams in the AP Top 25 held their spots after either winning or not playing over the weekend.

Georgia remained No. 1 for the fourth straight week, receiving 30 first-place votes and 1,528 points. The Volunteers moved up a spot, receiving 18 first-place votes and 1,500 points to match Ohio State. The Buckeyes received 15 first-place votes.

Seven of the past eight teams that were ranked No. 1 in the committee's first ranking have gone on to reach the CFP. The only exception was Mississippi State in 2014, the first season of the CFP.

Georgia tightened its hold on No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll. For the first time in the College Football Playoff era, Alabama and Clemson lost on the same day, and both tumbled in the rankings.
