A definitive ranking of all six major men's college basketball conferences

Conference play is beginning in earnest and for the first time this season we're seeing a steady stream of quality games played in home-court settings. Much basketball remains to be played, but we've already seen enough to come to some conclusions on the major men's Division I conferences and where they rank in 2024 -- particularly before one of them disappears in a few months. To put those conclusions on the record at the very beginning of the calendar year, ESPN.com's Joe Lunardi and John Gasaway sat down and ranked the major conferences. Balancing measures of top-to-bottom strength like KenPom with less comprehensive metrics like AP rankings and projected seeds, they came up with their very own combined rankings. Here's how they see the power conferences shaping up, counting down from No. 6 all the way to No. 1.

Francis Ngannou, Anthony Joshua to square off in boxing match

Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou have struck a deal for a heavyweight boxing match in Riyadh, Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, announced Friday on social media. The fight will take place March 8, sources told ESPN. Joshua (27-3, 24 KOs) had been set to fight Deontay Wilder in a long-awaited clash March 9 in Riyadh before Wilder was upset last month by Joseph Parker. Later that night, Joshua scored a fifth-round TKO of Otto Wallin after fracturing Wallin's nose. The Dec. 23 card in Riyadh was meant to set up the Joshua-Wilder clash, but now Alalshikh has turned to perhaps an even more intriguing matchup for Joshua. Ngannou, 36, made his professional boxing debut in shocking fashion when he floored heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in October in Riyadh en route to a split-decision loss. Now, Ngannou (0-1) will prepare to prove the performance was no fluke against yet another British boxing star.
