It's complicated, and I've only really read and understood about a quarter of it, but it's the clearest explanation I've found so far of how form constants form when you're hallucinating.
Essentially, polar coordinates in the visual field can be mapped logarithmically to Cartesian coordinates in the visual cortex, so that stimulating a straight line of connected neurons in the visual cortex means you perceive a logarithmic spiral in your field of vision.
