Cassie (aka Summer Reading 2008)

Anthony Bourdain is like the Jack Kerouac (or Hunter S. Thompson) of chefs. He writes essays and travelogues in a grandly noir-ish style, you learn about much more than food reading his books and watching his show "No Reservations".

If that sounds appealing to you, then I recommend his books "Kitchen Confidential" and "A Cook's Tour". asdsgf

I love Anthony Bourdain, but I've never read his books. No Reservations is probably my favorite travel/cooking show on the TV. I wish it was uncensored!

I'm not reading no food books.

They're really travelogues (Cook's Tour is, anyway). He's unique. But, YMMV.

I think he's kinda hot, in a weird way.

The only episode I saw of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations was in I think Japan. It seemed like a cool show.

BOOKS

COOL, I'vE READ SOME OF THEM.

READ THIS (IN BRAILLE) LOLSY

It's all smooth.

So my library has "Kitchen Confidential" but "A Cook's Tour" is on order. "Tour" sounds kinda interesting from the jacket cover blurb.
never seen Anthony Bourdain on TV, but seem to remember reading the reviews for "Kitchen Confidential" at the NYT website.
IIRC the book puts one off eating out by telling scary stories about gross things that go on behind the scenes in restaurants?

I decided to translate Hunters of Dune into lolspeak so I'm gonna have to read that turd after all.

Bourdain's first book was a crime novel (with culinary themes of course) called Bone in the Throat. It might have a wider appeal than his nonfiction books.

Can I be in your club?

this book was awesome...

nope. I will go to the library and get it! Wait...what kind of book is it? If it's some kind of historical documentary about wars or somesuch then I'm out. I can't seem to stay focused for stuff like that. Otherwise, I'm in! :D

Yay!

It's post-apocalyptic, it's not classified as sci-fi but it is, srsly. It's by Cormac McCarthy. I'm not going to be able to read it for at least a week cause I've got relatives invading tomorrow, god I hope they only stay a few days, lol. Anyway, I've heard a lot of great things about the book, heck even Oprah loved it.

OK.. just ordered The Road, Hyperion, Lathe of Heaven, and Neuromancer.
